That's not what the article says

It says that we will now live with COVID like we live with the flu

    Well well well

FDA Commissioner Robert Califf, Principal Deputy Commissioner Janet Woodcock and the agency’s top vaccine official, Dr. Peter Marks, wrote that COVID-19 will be in circulation for the foreseeable future and must be accepted as another common virus in the Journal of the American Medical Association.

“Widespread vaccine- and infection-induced immunity, combined with the availability of effective therapeutics, could blunt the effects of future outbreaks. Nonetheless, it is time to accept that the presence of SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, is the new normal,” the officials wrote. “It will likely circulate globally for the foreseeable future, taking its place alongside other common respiratory viruses such as influenza. And it likely will require similar annual consideration for vaccine composition updates in consultation with the FDA.”

I’ve been listening to a podcast about the start of the AIDS crisis in the 80s, and it’s wild to hear how insanely slow people were to give it the attention it needed compared to COVID.

I know the scale is massively different with COVID, but the fatality rate was so much higher with AIDS in the 80s.

I mean, the problem at this juncture is the debilitating effects of it, which seems to exceed influenza.

Did you take a home test?

The fact that I’ve worked retail for over a year now and haven’t caught it yet (as far as I know) is legit nothing short of a miracle, especially considering I live in Texas.

It’s low-key kind of stressful though because I’m just waiting for the day where I wake up feeling awful.

Yeah I’ve had a weird feeling in my throat for a day or 2 and woke up with more symptoms today. Think it was the tests that the government sent out. Honestly found them pretty difficult to use compared to other tests I’ve used.

    This still a thing?

Yeah I mean I worked stop and shop for a couple months around Christmas 2020 and managed to avoid it. Plenty of my coworkers got it though. I’m guessing it was someone in my classes or my roommates at school that gave it to me cuz I don’t really be seeing too many people

North Koreans travel, lol (with government permission of course). They also have embassies in other countries. They work abroad, study abroad, play sports abroad, etc.

People also travel to tour North Korea.

Don't think so. A travel ban was implemented in 2018. I don't think it was ever lifted.

There’s a pretty big outbreak of Covid at my work rn, and my wife and I have been sinus problems since last night, but I took a rapid test and it was negative so

Imma take another later, but it’s pretty wild that I’ve yet to catch this unless I got it once and was completely asymptomatic

BA.4 and BA.5 Omicron sub variants bumped up to “variants of concern”

We’re gonna end up going into the Fall/Winter blind at this rate, so gotta keep fingers crossed that whatever new booster is dropped delivers.

And Congress is considering letting Covid funding die unless they see Covid cases rise
