What the f*** does that mean bro

Hiphop has never been this diverse but yet ppl like u say nobody is pushing boundaries

    It’s BS

I like osamason etc, but its nothing too different about him or the other artist u mentioned to really revive a genre (Yhap imo is diff but is too niche to really argue about)

One thing ive noticed that keeps things alive and interesting is rebellion, its why the soundcloud era was so big because Carti,Uzi etc werent like blog era rappers

But rappers now are basically just Soundcloud era rappers all over again, even from a kids standpoint, imagine calling someone who was into carti when they dropped old while listening to someone with the exact same sound and aesthetics just younger

It would be like if in the 90s,Nirvana was another new wave or post punk band from the 80s

Its also why I honestly think ageism is on the rise, cuz everything the youth is doing rn isnt that diff from that last gen, or even what ppl in their late 20s to mid 30s are doing so ppl are just coming up with ridiculous ways to separate themselves

Most of the superstars we have were guys that came into the game doing something inventive or unique to make them stand out, and also pushing the genre forward. None of those guys you named are doing anything close to that, they’re just referencing former styles that have already had their day

I just don’t agree at all

They all have unique qualities which is why they are semi popular in the first place

The more unique people you guys say are garbage lol ex: Nettspend, Xaviersobased, Phreshboyswag, Izaya Tiji

People like Summrs created whole subgenres but somehow still aren’t innovative enough? Like that’s bs man

Imma make a thread eventually but this streamers and YouTubers are going to help prop up this new wave

The amount of interest for these guys on YouTube and Twitch is kindve wild it’s like their main fanbases for the new new guys

    SoundCloud offshoots

I’m not sure what this is actually supposed to mean

SoundCloud prime was 7 years ago and rap has changed. This is rap now it’s not SoundCloud offshoots

Xaviersobased is not gonna be a superstar and thats ok, he doesnt need to be, he makes good music, hes experimental tho, its like telling someone death grips would be mainstream

Like people are forgetting in order to be a superstar, ppl in their 20s and 30s also need to be able to listen to u, ik ppl in their 30s who listen to ice spice, u not putting a average 30 y/o on to Xav

  • Fax My Brother

mainstream hip hop has been truly terrible since like 2020 so it's not really surprising if we're honest

Real ones know it was 2017-2018 when everybody dropped mid

Ice spice is so f***ing bad though

She’s a prime example of how u guys prop up bad artists

She’s just a bad version of good NY rap but she’s pretty so she gets hype

Yea but who cares about superstars that's for kids

They dont really care about rap. They care about the handful of rappers they grew up with. They are more pop culture fans than fans of hip hop.

If they were grown in like 06-07 they would’ve been watching Hollywood Access. That’s why they always cry about monoculture and s*** like that

Whats crazy is that yall are arguing in here but missing the fact that Billboard purposely sabotaged rap because rap was running the charts at the turn of the decade until they made all these excessive rule changes to benefit country/pop artists

Yeah tastes change but there's more happening here. Billboard changed the rules when artists like Travis, BTS, Tekashi 69 stans took advantage of the bundle rules. It was slow changes but they didn't want mass buying to keep taking over the charts when people weren't even getting albums they were buying "digital copies" with shirts and McDonald's pillows

But let's be real if rap was really dominating like that they wouldn't have to rely on that to stay on top. The rule changes exposed a lot of artists who need to move merch and can't move music on it's own merits. That's why we had a decline in album sales and even flops in other genres like Dawn FM. The last decade was carried by merch not music and artists couldn't fake it anymore

We not doing this. After Hours is his only album that was boosted by merch sales, and even then it was still one of the biggest albums of 2020 and 2021

She’s really not bro. She’s making the current meta of NY rap as a pretty girl with an orange Afro.

She’s just taking that style and repackaging it for pop fans who would otherwise turn their nose up at hood rappers/niggas like many of yall on here

She’s taking that style and repurposing it for a different audience.

So exactly like I said, she’s a breath of fresh air
