Is Craig any good? I think I peeped him once but never peeped again anyway got links to good stuff?

Pulitzer-nominated. He's a brilliant writer, can't fault his pen even if you disagree with him. Had to mute him a while ago tbh because he's in that media sphere where they act (tweet) like Ye is dead to them but they have to cover every single move he does, and it gets annoying. But do read any review of his.

The lowest depth to which people can sink before God is defined by the words 'music critic'. If I were a father and had a daughter who became a prostitute I should not despair over her; I would continue to hope for her salvation. But if I had a son who became a music critic and continued to be one for five years, I would give him up.

    love this writer

  • Mar 8, 2022

What happens if he finishes it and it's amazing

  • Mar 8, 2022

why is there a thread about a critic that ain’t fantano or p4k

  • Mar 8, 2022

I respect everything Ye is attempting with this rollout artistically and will not judge the album until it is finalized

I am not a fan of this release style to be clear though; I don’t care that it isn’t on streaming services, I just don’t want to listen to basically demos

Probably not from a production standpoint at least. However if the song as a whole is ass then I'm not really interested in the production. Give the beat to other artists who know what to do with it.

    WESLEY PETTY

I think I’m more tired of people justifying anything Ye does musically than anything.

It’s laughable the length people will go. Just cuz it’s “unfinished” doesn’t mean it’s unreleased. Ye dropped that pile of s***. So if people wanna critique it for what it is, I don’t see why they don’t. If a better version comes out later on, then we will all eat our words.

Exactly. but Stans will move the goal post like always.

    that’s what i’m saying

from a writer point of view, dont give this attention. don’t say anything if you want to make a point!

i don’t get how writers can say they detest the spectacle when all they do is engage with it.

at least be like the rest of us and admit thé nigga got u in an attention chokehold

    That’s not how critique works

  • Craig my favorite music journalist by a mile and he hit the nail on the head once again

His interviews with Mac all time great hip hop pieces

Kanye is the only artist in the industry utilizing the digital nature of streaming to create something unique. It’s literally a work in progress how f***ing dense do you have to be to not get that through your head. Released or not. Clearly it's meant to be worked on. I wonder if he pulled a Brian Eno and made generative beats if people would still slam him. Wack s***.

    SERENITY

    from the article:

Fans have adopted the language of video-game developers as mixes are tweaked and “patch notes” are circulated. Hastily reworked albums and promising songs left on the cutting-room floor hurt the dependability of an artist whose catalogue once challenged the greatest in hip-hop. We used to hear stories of legendary sessions where West, taskmaster and perfectionist, pushed collaborators to greatness they hadn’t believed possible and matched their achievements with his own. Now, we pay to play his demos.

The stems bear out how little is there, presenting an intriguing test case for a gadget that lets you carve a track like a chicken. Finishing all the lyrics wouldn’t make these songs seem less like gilded, untouched rooms in a mansion. There isn’t much precedent for an artist at Ye’s level selling music this far from sounding done or for tying the release to $200 personal electronics.

or you could’ve just read it before posting

none of that answers my question lmfao. We know this isn't the official "Donda 2" so again I will ask, how are we critiquing something we all now isn't finished yet?

And no this is not akin to video game patch notes.

  • Mar 8, 2022

He’s a great and fair writer and honestly I agree with basically everything in this

  • Mar 8, 2022
    So Illegal

    Very obvious

The last album he actually had something to say on was Ye and his fans arent mature enough for that yet

"John 8:36 to who the son set free is free, is free indeed, he saved a wretch like me"

    Find God.

  • Mar 8, 2022

    I guess I just don't know how anyone a
has the right to say what music is or isn't and how it should or shouldn't be made. To critique something like the process of making an album just blows my mind.

the patch notes thing came from kanye fans bro

and yes, it addresses what you said exactly. it’s fair to criticize something unfinished if he’s charging money for it and it wasn’t advertised as being unfinished, especially when, as the author notes, it isn’t even close to sounding done. you think kanye wouldnt get criticized for charging people for demos?
