THE WITCH OF YAZOO

This story was first made widely popular when Willie Morris mentioned it in his book Good Old Boy published in 1971. Residents of Yazoo, Mississippi although have passed it down for several generations.

According to the legend in the late 1800s an “old ugly witch” who lived along the Yazoo River was caught torturing fishermen she lured in off the river.

In this tale a young boy by the name of Joe Bob Duggett in the fall of 1884 while passing by the witches’ house heard loud screams. He peered through one window and to his horror he saw two dead fisherman on the floor as the witch danced around them chanting.

He then alerted the sheriff and when the two arrived at the house they found no one home but they discovered two skeletons hanging from the rafters.

Hearing the witch outside they chased her into the swamp. By the time they caught up to her she had fallen into quicksand. It was too late to rescue her.

As she sank deeper into the sand with her last breath she cursed, “I shall return from the grave in 20 years and burn down the town.” Then she disappeared beneath the muck.

When she was buried in Glenwood Cemetery heavy chains were placed atop her grave to insure she stayed buried.

As the years passed few remembered her threat—that is until the morning of May 25, 1904. What began, as a small fire soon became a raging inferno driven by what some described as fierce winds:

“The flames were said by witnesses to have leaped through the air, as if driven by some supernatural force.”

This fire destroyed 200 residences and every business in Yazoo City. In all 324 building were destroyed.

It was said the fire was started innocently in one young woman’s—a Miss Wise’s– kitchen as she prepared food for her wedding later that day.

But since the force of the winds were such a strange occurrence for the area many believed it was the witches curse that spread the fire so quickly.

It was exactly twenty years since she had cursed the town. A group of citizens headed for the cemetery and found that several of the large chains surrounding her grave were broken.

Today modern Yazooans still like to retell this story. Children in town affectionately call the witch—The Chain Lady.

No one knows the witches real name, the original stone that marked her grave is long gone but only had the letters TW engraved on it—The Witch.

The heavy chains still surround what is known today as The Witches Grave.

The newer head stone that replaced the old one mysteriously cracked in half shortly after being placed on the grave. Even more mysterious is the heavy chains near her grave have to be constantly repaired. It is stated because they fall apart shortly after being repaired each time.

After publishing this post a reader, Joshua Ray Lancaster contacted me and shared a photo he took at the Yazoo grave in 2006. It appears to have a ghostly figure hovering near the witches grave.

The House that Bled

In 1987 Minnie and William Winston had been married forty-four years. For the previous twenty-two years they had rented a six room, red brick home at the corner of Fountain Drive and Morris Street in southwest Atlanta. It was just before midnight on September 8 when Minnie, 77, stepped out of the shower and found the bathroom floor covered with splotches of blood. Mrs. Winston immediately woke her 79-year-old husband, saying, “Come look at all this red stuff coming out of the floor.”

Spots of blood, ranging in size from a dime to a silver dollar, were found on the floor and lower walls in the bathroom, bedroom, kitchen, basement, and every hall. The substance was also located under a television and in narrow, nearly inaccessible crawl spaces in the basement.

Homicide Detective Steve Cartwright agreed, said that in his ten years of service, “I’ve never seen anything like this.” The couple had no pets, and there were no rodents in the house. Police were not terribly concerned because William, retired from the National Screen Service Company, was often in bed attached to a dialysis machine, which cleanses the blood of people suffering from kidney failure.However, Mr. Winston seemed to reject his blood as the solution to the mystery, saying, “I don’t know what the stuff is.”

By September 11 it was known that the blood type of the house was O, and William and Minnie’s was A.

Kurokami-sama Ritual

Like Lightless City and the Stranger Ritual, Kurokami-sama is a game of revenge. (Don’t attempt it unless you’re okay causing harm to other people — which, honestly, isn’t something anyone should be okay with). It’s both the name of the ritual and the entity you appeal to in it. Although it’s not entirely clear who or what Kurokami-sama herself is, the characters with which the name is written — 黒髪, meaning “black hair” plus the honorific 様, or “-sama” — implies she has black hair. She might be an onryo — a vengeful female spirit dressed in white and characterized by the long mane of black hair covering her face — but she’s also been described simply as a being covered entirely in black hair, so the jury’s still out here.

As is common for urban legends, there’s a moral to be learned from this one. A story accompanying the rules of the ritual states that a girl who was being bullied performed the ritual and soon saw those who bullied her begin to suffer, while her own fortunes improved dramatically. However, after sharing how to perform the ritual with someone else who was also being bullied, there was an immediately reversal: She began to suffer, while those who bullied her thrived. Eventually, she disappeared entirely; no one knows where she is, although it’s implied that she may not be around anymore at all (or at least, not on this plane of existence). In teaching someone else the Kurokami-sama ritual, the bullied became the bully — and thus, she became the target of Kurokami-sama’s ire.

Kurokami-sama is quite simple to perform.

However, that doesn’t necessarily mean that it’s safe.

One principal.

Instructions:

The Preparation

Wait until night has fallen. Keep an eye on the time.
Near or at midnight, go to your chosen location. Position yourself as high up as you possibly can, making sure you have access to the open air,
Carefully pull a strand of hair from your own head.

The Invocation:

Hold the strand of hair in your hand. Speak the name of the person who has mistreated you.
Continuing to hold the strand of hair, repeat aloud the actions this person has taken against you — what they have done directly to you, what they have done which indirectly harmed you, what they have said to you yourself or about you to others. List everything; forget nothing.
When you have finished airing your grievances — and still holding the strand of hair — speak the following words: “Let my grudge be cleared.”
From your lofty perch, face the night and say, “Kurosami-sama, I beseech you to avenge my wrongs.”
Open your hand and release the strand of hair. Let it fly off into the darkness.
Return home. Sleep, if you can.

The Results:

Pay attention in the coming days, weeks, months, and years. Keep an eye on your enemies — on the people whose names you offered forth. Watch them closely, but do so from a distance. Do not interact with them if you can help it, though if you must, do not behave any way other than neutrally. If you see them beginning to suffer — to lose their families, their friends, their health, their wealth — then you will know that Kurokami-sama has heard you.
Pay attention, too, to your own fortunes. If you see yourself beginning to thrive — to gain love, health, wealth, power — then you will know that Kurokami-sama has deemed you worthy.
Be careful, though. These are gifts; don’t abuse them.
Kurokami-sama’s justice is swift, and can be reversed at any time.

Additional Notes:

The only requirement for the location is that it high off the ground and with access to the outdoors. The top of a tall building will work just as well as a mountain ridge. Similarly, you yourself do not need to be outside while you perform the ritual; you must simply have access to the open air. For example, if you choose for your location the top of a tall building, standing on the highest floor before an open window will work just as well as standing on the rooftop itself will.

You may perform this ritual using more than one name at a time. Should you choose to invoke the names of multiple people who have wronged you, list them each in turn, along with all of your grievances against them, one by one during Steps 1 and 2 of The Invocation.

Kurokami-sama is believed to be most active between the hours of midnight and two o’clock in the morning. It is unknown whether it is necessary to perform the ritual precisely between those hours; however, it is suggested that you do so, as you are more likely to reach Kurokami-sama during that time. Think of it as if you were calling her on the phone: If she’s asleep, she probably won’t answer.

A Word Of Warning:

Do NOT attempt to perform this ritual if you yourself have wronged other people. Nor should you allow yourself to wrong others after the ritual’s completion. Your fortunes will only improve with the decline of those of your enemies if you are pure of heart. If you are not, the ritual may backfire: Your own fortunes will worsen, while those of your enemies will improve.

Kurokami-sama may decide that it isn’t your enemies who deserve to suffer a terrible fate.

She may decide that it’s you yourself who deserve it.

Emergency Shelter (Cryptic Story)

A certain countryside region was hit by earthquake.
I headed to the nearest elementary school building, which was a designated emeregency shelter, and decided to spend a night in there; but as turned out, it was too crowded and therefore too noisy and too warm.
When I went outside to get some fresh air, I noticed there was another building with the lights out on the same premises.
I walked over to it and went inside. It was cool, quiet and a lot of people were lying down on the floor.
I felt so lucky to have found the place and lay down in the same way as the others to go to sleep. But after a while I realised there was something wrong with the place. It was far too quiet.

Animals Donations (Another Cryptic Story)

A long time ago, I came across a site called "Donations for Poor Wounded Animals"

The site was chock full of highly explicit images such as pictures of a legless dog and disemboweled cats.
But it also came with step-by-step pictures of how these animals recovered from their injuries after receiving treatments.

It appeared they were receiving quite a lot of donations and used the money to carry out proper operations on those poor creatures.
It made me feel really good to see them become healthy and happy again.

Mandy the Doll is a haunted doll that is at the Quesnel and District Museum in British Columbia Canada. Mandy the Doll was once kept in the basement of the house of a woman. The woman donated her after she kept hearing the sound of a crying baby and the window that she kept closing kept opening. After Mandy the Doll was donated to the Quesnel and District Museum, things like pens, lunches, and books started to disappear. She even was blamed for damaging other dolls. The museum staff thought she was just lonely so they gave her a stuffed lamb to keep her company. Electronic devices don’t work around Mandy and she is said to move around in her case.

Oldie but a goodie

The Anguished Man is an alleged haunted painting owned by Sean Robinson. Sean Robinson inherited The Anguished Man from his grandmother who kept it locked in the attic for 25 years claiming that it was evil. She said that the original artist mixed his own blood into the paint before killing himself. Sean doubted the paranormal aspect of the painting and hung it up anyway. After Sean hung the painting up, he heard the sound of crying and saw a dark figure in the corner of the room that the painting was hung in. Sean eventually took the Anguished Man down however he does let paranormal investigators do research on it.

Grave of Dr. Timothy Clark Smith

In New Haven, Vermont lies a unique grave. Because of the prevalence of accidental burials in the 1700s & 1800s, many people used preventative measures such as bells should someone find themselves buried alive. Dr. Smith decided that wasn’t enough, and deemed that a window be installed on his grave in the event of his death. When he did eventually die, a secret vault for his wife was also built under his grave. Today the window is blurry with condensation and mold, but if a person shines a flashlight down into the grave at night, the body is still visible. Tales of hauntings also follow this grave, and the surrounding cemetery. People have made reports of an eerie green light within the grave at night and peering into the window and seeing a living face staring back at them. An old urban legend also says if you knock upon the window three times, you will hear screams and the doctor himself will appear.

Photographs of a Demonic Haunting

Bob Cranmer was convinced his home was haunted by a hostile demonic presence. He even had multiple religious figures help to battle the demon in his home, which he claims ultimately worked and the demon was expelled.

During the haunting, though, Cranmer and his family faced many mysteriously broken and bent crucifixes, mysterious blood-like substances deliberately spattered on the walls, and parallel scratches on his body. He photographed bits of the experience, including the staircase in his home, which he photographed at a point where the family dog continually stared at it. The scratches, he claimed, were apparently applied at night, as he would not feel them during the night and then wake up to new scratches.

The religious leaders involved in the case were also adamant that the demonic presence was very real. Now that it has reportedly been driven out, Cranmer says he still feels shaken up about the ordeal.

3 horror movies that were alleged to be cursed

Tragic deaths, strange coincidences and unnerving experiences surrounded these chilling horror classics.
Sometimes the most disturbing things about a movie happened off-screen rather than on camera.

Poltergeist I, II and III (1982-1988)
Directed by Tobe Hooper and produced by Stephen Spielberg, the original 'Poltergeist' told the terrifying tale of a family who became besieged by a malicious haunting that culminated in their youngest daughter being pulled through a portal to the 'other side'.

Tragedy would notoriously follow the cast and crew however with Dominique Dunne - who played Dana - being murdered by her abusive ex-boyfriend, Julian Beck - who played Kane - dying of stomach cancer, Will Sampson - who played Taylor - dying of surgery complications and perhaps most tragically of all, the film series' young protagonist Heather O'Rourke dying of septic shock.

The Exorcist (1973)
When it was released, the original Exorcist was so terrifying that some unsuspecting cinemagoers ended up passing out in the theater. Things didn't go much better behind the cameras either.

When shooting began in 1972, a fire tore through the set of Regan MacNiel's home, causing extensive damage. In a peculiar twist, the room used for the actual exorcism scenes escaped unscathed.

Actors Jack MacGowran and Vasiliki Maliaros both died shortly after filming had wrapped and both Linda Blair and Max von Sydow suffered the loss of close family members during shooting.

Jason Miller's son nearly died in a motorcycle accident and several actors were injured onset.

There is even the story of lightning striking a church opposite the cinema where the film was showing.

The Omen (1976)
Another supernatural horror classic, 'The Omen' followed the story of Damien - a seemingly innocuous young boy who just happened to be the son of Satan himself.

A mere two months before filming started, the son of actor Gregory Peck shot himself. Then when Peck was flying to London in September, his plane was struck by lightning.

The same thing happened to executive producer Mace Neufeld a few weeks later, then producer Harvey Bernhard narrowly avoided being struck by lightning while filming in Rome.

"The devil was at work and he didn't want that film made," he said.

An animal handler who worked on the 'crazy baboon' scene was mauled by a tiger shortly after filming wrapped and on Friday 13th, special effects artist John Richardson was involved in a car accident.

While he escaped with his life, his passenger - assistant Liz Moore - was decapitated in a manner very similar to a scene in the movie that Richardson himself had worked on.

To cap it all, a plane that was chartered by the film before being switched at the last minute went down a short time after taking off, resulting in the deaths of everyone on-board.

Unnerving 'Bigfoot screams' caught on video

A family who had been out grouse hunting in Canada recently recorded some truly blood-curdling sounds.
This fascinating clip, which was uploaded to YouTube on October 3rd, was recorded by user 'Stargell Blackstar' who had been out hunting with his wife and young grandson.

They were approximately 45km from Sioux Lookout in Ontario, Canada when they started to hear a series of loud, mournful screams coming from somewhere nearby.

The chilling vocalizations continued for several minutes, leaving the couple very disconcerted.

The video, which has racked up almost 45,000 views at the time of writing, has attracted quite a few comments from other users who have been speculating over what the creature might be.

"I looked up bear roars/howls here on YT, they do NOT sound like this," wrote user Jenn J. "This sounds like a monster. Notice it stopped when your little one yelled back ?"

"Yes we noticed it stopped for a bit when my boy shouted back," the uploader replied. "He started to get scared at the end of the video."

House in Southaven (Submission)

I was about thirteen years old and it was around 3. I was up late watching TV. I had to use the bathroom but I was completely terrified of the dark, still am. I had left my bedroom door open so that the hallway wasn’t so dark and ran across the hall to the bathroom. The way the house was set up was the bathroom had a door leading out to the hallway that I used and in front of the toilet there was a door leading to the master bathroom on the ground floor of the house. I rushed to the toilet, did my thing and was about to get up when I heard the closet door in the master bedroom open. I thought it was extremely weird because my brother was asleep and would probably sleep all night since he worked a double shift that night. I listened closely as I heard footsteps coming closer and was about to yell and say that I was in here when I heard a little girl’s voicing call my brother’s name. “Josh, wake up”. I was petrified and my heart was beating about as fast as it possibly could. “Josh, wake up. Play with me”. I heard my brother grumble something and then everything was quiet for a moment before I heard his bed springs squeak as if someone was getting on the bed. Not even a minute later I hear my brother starting to go crazy and screaming profanity after profanity. “I don’t want to blank play with you!! Go the blank away from me!! I’ve got to blank work in the morning!! I don’t blank believe in you!!!” and all I could hear was the running of little feet across the room, and the slamming of the door. I didn’t leave the bathroom until morning came and my mother had came looking for me. The extremely scary parts were that the master bedroom closet and my closet were separated by one wall and when my brother moved out, I got his room.

Sleep App Records More Than Just Sleeping

Every time we get ready for bed, everyone has their own rituals sort of speak that they do to prepare. Some people just simply pass out after plopping onto the bed. One person explained that they use an app to record sounds at night.

The reason they do this is to improve their nights sleeping. The app that this anonymous person used is known as “Sleep As Android”. It features different noises heard throughout the night. This would include people talking in their sleep, snoring, ruffling pillows and sheets, coughing any pretty much anything else.

Back during 2013 on December 30th, something was recorded that still haunts this person to date. On this night, their 3 year old was sleeping in the room with them because they were scared of the dark. It was only them and their child there, nobody else was around.

Upon the next night, this person explained that they deleted recordings made on that night. However, as they were listening to the app, they began to hear sounds that gradually became louder and louder. The person then explained they heard themselves say “What are you doing?”. A moment later a reply was heard saying “Nothing”.

After hearing this, they began to freak out. Towards the end of the recording a voice can be heard saying “That’s them”. They didn’t remember waking up in the middle of the night either. The only logical explanation was, they were talking in their sleep. However, their voice sounded quite different.

Clicking sounds were also heard on the recording coming from the room. Creepily their phone was placed right next to them on their bedside desk. Thinking back from before, they mentioned that they heard these same types of clicking sounds from before but deleted them. This was the first time that they heard anything more distinctive though such as a voice.

This is what they said in an update:

“I have caught no more voice recordings since then. Also, as suggested by several people, I’ve beefed up my home security, changed the locks, that kind of thing. This happened 4 months ago. Since then, I have had no more weird voice recordings BUT there were one or 2 more instances of the clicking noise waking me up at night.”

“During one of the times that it woke me up, I sat up and tried to hear where the sound was coming from (even though I was pretty scared). The sound seemed to be coming from the area of my fan) about 12 feet away from my bed) but the closer I got, it started to fade away. When I got to my fan, it wasn’t coming from my fan at all that I could tell and it just stopped.”

“Very weird. Also, I took someone else’s advice and walked through my house shortly after the final clicking and asked that whatever it was to please leave my house and that my son and I were scared. I felt like a complete ding dong doing that, though, but I was up for trying about anything. I’d say nothing weird has happened for about 3 months now. I am completely fine with that. This experience really messed with me for awhile.”

From what is understood, they thought it was an EVP (Electronic Voice Phenomenon). Some people suggested that they might have partly recorded a break in during the night, which is equally terrifying.

It was suggested that the sounds heard were burglars rummaging through their belongings looking for something to steal. The only other explanation was something more paranormal related. Since these happenings, they have moved away for obvious reasons.

Faceless Freaks Found Frolicking In The Forest

A video was uploaded by the ‘GhostPanic Official’ YouTube channel. Their ghost hunting crew consists of 5 different guys who wander around looking for anything out of the ordinary.

The video is both creepy and weird. As seen in the video, are several humanoid type creatures wandering around in the darkness. They appear to be faceless and have long dark looking hair.

As with many videos like this, the question remains whether or not this was created or this was some kind of actual paranormal encounter. If this was real, it certainly would frightened most people away. The quality of the video is kind of poor but good enough to make out some details anyway.

So, what was happening in this forest? These things look like mutants, were they escapees from some kind of secret asylum? There are so many questions about this video. In all likeliness, this was all staged by a small group of people.

One of the young men can be heard screaming in terror, after he locks eyes upon these strange looking misfit freaks. People do practice the dark arts and different groups will secretly meet in remote locations. While far fetched, they unknowingly may have summoned forth several demon-like entities. Maybe even, they disposed of the other people there.

Some people enjoy the thrill of the hunt or are adrenaline junkies. Wandering around alone or with others in a dark forest can be a recipe for disaster.

You never know just what might be out there. Imagine camping in this forest and having these freaks wander into your camp.

This video was believed to be recorded somewhere in Indonesia. The Orang bunian are supernatural beings in Indonesian folklore, believed to be invisible to most humans, except those with spiritual sight. Maybe these things were some kind of incarnation of these but likely not.
