People are bothered by cudi doing this but let’s be real

Cudi is one of the greatest to ever do it & never once got the appreciation or respect he deserves so I can see why he’d get so defensive against someone who claims he borrowed a sound he himself birthed from an artist who is apart of that offspring

Imagine another artist who adopted your sound is respected & loved more than you & even at the height of your career people still overlook you blindly for absolutely nothing whilst you watch your offspring get that praise over you

It’s messed up & sad to see but maybe cudi is the kind of artist who’s legacy lives on forever just not exactly in the moment it exists in

Just glad he’s still here giving us classics

You kidding me bro Cudi was huge during MOTM 1 & 2 era. Him Drake and Wale were considered the ones. He been on every Kanye album since 808s he def got every bit of credit he deserves

It’s rewritten narrative that MOTM I & II were beloved classics when they dropped when in actuality they also had a mixed reception like the third one did. Cudi himself even pointed that out in an interview.

Which is why I believe the 3rd is going to age well. It hasn’t had 10+ years to marinate like 1 & 2 have.

That’s fair but once again go listen to follow me and tell me it isn’t the same. That song came out over a decade ago.

Cudi just didn’t use that sound a whole lot but he has songs with that drowned out autotune singing or rapping before. Well before Travis ever came out.

What exactly has Travis done that’s unique anyway? His “sound” is a clusterfuck of other artists not his own creation. People need to stop championing him like he’s an originator of anything. He’s a great emulator.

MOTM1 & 2 def had its haters but let’s not pretend like he wasn’t far bigger back then, the reception for MOTM1 specifically was mostly positive outside of critics

During that era he was looked at as the next potential big star, not to mention both albums had a fresh new sound. MOTM3 while dope won’t have anywhere near their impact even if it marinates lmao

Lmfaooo it’s not rewritten. Cudi pointed out that they didn’t go plat or whatever but when it came to critical acclaim those albums were it. KTT and Complex and all the blogs were on his d*** heavy. Cudi was a superstar back then what are you talking about man

I wouldn’t say superstar even back then. He never even hit #1 until Travis bundle Scott came along. He was a star though and pretty well known thanks to his close association with Kanye and the media’s microobsession with him.

I definitely disagree about MOTM 2 being as acclaimed upon release as you say. MOTMI ok sure that one was pretty well received even with a bad review from B****fork for example. But MOTM2 was not given the reception it deserved until later on.

Probably not truthfully. It would’ve been damn near impossible to live up to the nostalgia the first 2 had. All the kids who grew up on those albums religiously are all grown up now. And Cudi isn’t depressed anymore, he’s in a really good space. It would’ve been worse for him to force a sad vibe to “fit”, rather then just make whatever he felt like.

  • Jul 5, 2021

While he isn’t using autotune here the way he did on some of MOTM3, this is an example of him using it long before Travis came into the picture.

  • It’s not the auto tune here it’s just the overall s***ty writing being attributed to “vibes” that draws the Travis comparison I feel

What does that have to do with anything I said? You’re claiming those albums had the same reception as MOTM3 which is just false, Erase Me and Revofev weren’t depressing and they were loved initially. MOTM2 just shed some of the mainstream bandwagon fans that expected him to stay with the same sound

Sales don’t equate to being an icon as far as culture goes I don’t know why you keep bringing that up.

This dude had Drake in his music video man doing songs with Snoop Dogg, David Guetta tracks, his cultural impact was immense Cudi was a superstar

Mike Dean had more production on PPDS, Take a Daytrip & Dot Da Genius did most of the production on MOTM3
