What a f***ing run man
https://twitter.com/DiscussingFilm/status/2061102446420570139Probably going to start decreasing this coming weekend but man this is insane to witness
Love to see horror movies (and indie at that) win so hard this year
@nocturnal there's still time to see it again!
They really said BRING ME MY MONEY . The amount of people memeing it , hating it , thinking it’s a glorification was the perfect storm
People don’t get this really restores a feeling
This gets even better the more I think about it. There were things I missed on first watch about real Nikki/one wish Nikki that made the film so much darker and more horrifying in retrospect.
Same company being behind both is funny
Seeing this still sold out even Tonight or close to it is insane

Thought a24 did Backrooms ?

Exactly
Sarah joking about we paid for their heroin for a week while working with needles . Nikki buying the drinks but people hesitating for her to give cash to homeless . Bear doesn’t finish his shot .
The glare of the eyes . Gift she gives . The fact that for a period of time it did seem okay
Yea man I know it was meant to be a critique. Doesn’t mean they executed it well at all. Plenty of better movies for that as you pointed out
What was wrong with the execution

When it got pointed out to me how f***ed up the s***scenes were, I was so done. I didn't really get how they were portraying the real/fake Nikki s*** at first but then it dawned on me and oh my God it's so sad.
Nikki gotta be one of the most depressing characters in cinema as of late. She didn't ask for any of that s***
Your parents never took you to a scary movie? You never got into a movie you weren’t supposed to be in? Literally a right of passage
this fr lol
used to sneak into r rated movies all the time
Oh you a f***ing moron . Even if obsession wasn’t in theaters the idea that they are seeing obsession and would have magically watched boosters instead
I watched Boosters first
(earlier the same day)
When she peed and s***ted some of yall got chills
Worst part of the movie and partially why I kinda think the supernatural/magical elements of it cap my enjoyment of it slightly. S*** got kinda ridiculous in spots and I just laughed/didn't find it scary
But obviously I have way more nice things to say about it than not and loved it overall
Why I gotta like the “I wish I had a free use f*** doll” movie? Yall are freaks man
I think this is kind of a simplification of the movie but there are a select group of people that feel how you feel . Which I get . S*** when I saw invisible man and he was beating the s*** out of her and torturing her life it was a lot to me .
One of the ugliest movies I’ve seen in a theater. No idea how people kept interest in this just from a visual standpoint. This was filmed like a sitcom nearly. Not a single creative moment in the entire filming of this.
I can agree with some of your takes on the writing, but this is super cap. The lighting alone and the way it blankets people's expressions is so good. If you can't appreciate the shot of Nikki in the doorway with the only thing lit up being her eyes, you're doing too much. The DP should get a raise

I think without some of those darker laughs of “ wtf this is crazier than we thought “ the movie risk being too dark
cat sandwich , standing in one spot all day , even after killing Sarah and her being calm .
It’s kind of a balancing act because it could be triggering to women . Many women have loved it . Some have hated it and I get it .
I don’t even think a magical happy ending would solve it .
It’s dark when some subsect of audience could be like “ crazy b**** “ even if most get the movie . It’s clear who the true horror is
how we feel about Ian?...lowkey feel like a lot of this could have been avoided had he been upfront about him and Nikki hooking up...doesn't mean Bear would have taken it well and may have still been obsessed with Nikki but Ian was a pretty shady friend to both Nikki and Bear (can't knock him for using his wish on a billion dollars though because yeah)
yeah Ian acts concerned about Nikki's mental well being but is it because he actually cares about her or is it bc he's just not diggin how she went from hooking up with him to being so into Bear suddenly?
Sarah was dead yes but Ian still had the chance to free Sarah if he took the wish for bear seriously . He chose money instead . Sarah was going to get killed regardless. If bear didn’t go to park she would come to him . Bear if he had respected Nikki’s wishes and killed her . He would likely go to jail or prison but he would have given Nikki peace . If he had gone earlier back to store and gotten the willow and told Sarah to make the wish genuinely feels like they could all in a way find peace again . Feels like if the movie had 30 more minutes to work through some things it could get interesting .
Tertiary characters in horror movies are almost always garbage. It's why I'll never take Midsommar over Hereditary; Flo's character is literally the only good one for 2 1/2 hours and the rest are expendable. That said, I think the dimensionless character writing in Obsession works.
In this movie, all we get is Bear's perspective and he's an empty husk of a person with no internal life or meaningful outlets, so the way we see the other characters is warped/limited by his myopia. Bro is a literal black hole and the only thing he wants is a girl he doesn't even know all that well. We actually learn about these characters and how f***ed up they are from other people, like Ian (who also sucks as a person).
Honestly, they're all pretty average people with a shared dead-end job just struggling to get by, but that doesn't impact the execution of the film's themes. In fact, it actually makes them shine through more because we get drip-fed details about their lives that Bear can't give us access to (because he doesn't really know them that well, or himself for that matter).
