what's funny is that they're more likely to make more money by delaying it, even though having the game as a launch title for next gen would be a lot of dough

Release the pc version

They are trying to copy GTA 5's marketing.

Release it on the end cycle of current gen for maximum profit, then release it on next gen later for those who didn't buy it yet.
