My local mall used to be noticeable different 10 years ago, with the Sony store, Brookstone, bookstore, Candy shop, McDonald’s, best-buy, Radio shack, etc. Even used to stroll around Sears, checking out all the TV’s and electronics they used to sell, while shopping for my son’s clothes. I’m probably being biased here, used to be a huge tech nerd with android and Apple devices, which those stores were my go-to for loitering around. 2009-13 marked the most memorable times there.
All those stores are now gone and replaced my overpriced clothing stores, it’s not the same anymore
To the point where I don’t have much desire of visiting the mall, unless repairing my phone or grabbing a meal from the food court. My son periodically hangs out at the mall with his friends, so the tradition isn’t completely lost from our family.
I mean yeah duh malls were GOAT vibeswise, obviously. The internet was a mistake.
Hell yeah bro my old mall used to have a giant elephant water fountain statue & an arcade
It is now completely demolished
kinda, but idk even when i was younger the mall was just meh. some of the past joy experienced with them, imo, is just from youth. to this day they serve as hang out spots for teens
The establishment of Amazon shopping led to the downfall of Sears, bitter at Bezos for that reason alone.
When I visited Sears and saw it shut down, immediately rushed to my car and bawled my eyes out for an hour. One of the emotional days I’ll never forget about.
respectfully, how old are you?
Retail is dead. Online only sales is the future unfortunately.
it really isnt
calling "hanging out at the mall" a family tradition is insane

Yea they’re like ghost towns
Mall around me is packed all the time, usually with unruly teenagers tho
Uh, maybe if I was a teenager and grew up hanging out at the.
F*** am I gonna do at a mall now besides buy something, eat, and see a movie which I can still do
I hope his bloodline is tormented for eternity

Ya and its more than just that. Malls used to be a place to socialize. People get their social cravings taken care of online now

Malls are an incredible waste of resources tho it’s good they’re dying
But yes malls should be reoriented to service the needs of the surrounding community since many suburbs lack that specific function by design. There’s no reason why it can’t have a library or a grocery store or housing.
