Ya and its more than just that. Malls used to be a place to socialize. People get their social cravings taken care of online now

How sad, no wonder the new generation are behaving like socially awkward introverts

They took out the Carousel at my mall like 15 years ago and replaced with an aquarium. Like I wanna ride a horse in a circle not look at fish

But yes malls should be reoriented to service the needs of the surrounding community since many suburbs lack that specific function by design. There’s no reason why it can’t have a library or a grocery store or housing.

Malls have grocery stores in England

My local mall used to be noticeable different 10 years ago, with the Sony store, Brookstone, bookstore, Candy shop, McDonald’s, best-buy, Radio shack, etc. Even used to stroll around Sears, checking out all the TV’s and electronics they used to sell, while shopping for my son’s clothes. I’m probably being biased here, used to be a huge tech nerd with android and Apple devices, which those stores were my go-to for loitering around. 2009-13 marked the most memorable times there.

All those stores are now gone and replaced my overpriced clothing stores, it’s not the same anymore

To the point where I don’t have much desire of visiting the mall, unless repairing my phone or grabbing a meal from the food court. My son periodically hangs out at the mall with his friends, so the tradition isn’t completely lost from our family.

Surprised you listed 2009-2013 as classic times for your mall tho lol

I feel like they started dying around 2010

The malls that still are in business deserve it all others can die

It is true though that it was more of a place to socialize, especially with the death of more robust third places in the 70s and 80s

  • May 26, 2023

I still hit the mall to get out of the house every now and then

Plus, where else can I visit Santa in the winter?

  • May 26, 2023

    Depends on what era

Mid to late 00s malls were goated

You also had to live in a bigger city tbh

They fell off right around the recession tbh

  • i still go to the mall to get s*** but it’s f***ing exhausting now as an adult especially when i get a lot of stuff

  • my teenage days are the mid 2010s though and it was still boomin hanging in the mall with friends so idk what y’all going on about

  • They just becoming open air centers now. Indoor malls are dead, visit your local open air shopping center and I bet it’s popping. Thank gentrification
