Cause Tune dominated that year with an iron fist lol.
But Paper Trail was TI's commercial peak where he became a superstar on par with Wayne and Kanye for a brief moment.
The album was loaded with crossover singles that dominated rap and pop radio alike like Live Your Life, Swagga Like Us, Dead and Gone, Whatever You Like, etc. It also had a diss for Shawty Lo called "What's Up, What's Haapnin" and the beef was kinda big for a hot moment.
Basically, TI was just as big as the other rappers on Swagga Like Us for that brief 08-09 period but his buzz died down like crazy when he went to jail and No Mercy came out. He was more so in that Jeezy/Ross/Game tier after that.
Exactly this. I always watch to see who represents the mid to late 2000s accurately. Salute
Bad take. I'm not a Humble fan but the song was a banger that used to get played in whips and parties all the time in 2017.
It's def one of Kendrick's lower quality songs but it was meant to be a crossover club song so it did what it was supposed to do.
My opinion
And all my friends opinion also
Song was trash and is trash
Eminem level single
We would literally laugh when seen people dance to humble.
But you entitled to your on opinion tho.
Album is not paper trail
But it is average to good in my opinion.
Humble is mid trash
And always was.
It’s the Hi my name is of the decade
Hi my name is sit down be humble
Eminemesqe level badly aging song

disrespectful to eminem
I am, I don’t have any urge to listen to it besides the singles (56 Bars, I’m Illy are execptions). King is a way better album. It’s not even I’m Serious, can’t match Trap Muzik or Urban Legend (his best one).
I'd feel a lot more motivated to go back and revisit his discography if he wasn't most likely a predator
But I agree, to even compare Eminem to Kendrick, an artist that has released nothing but universally acclaimed projects ('based on the pure quality of the music) is definitely an insult to Kendrick Lamar. Not a single true music lover and music expert would dare to make that comparison as kendrick is so ahead of everybody else in rap music....Humble is flawless, whereas every Eminem single can be criticized.
with that being said, Em is def at the very least 10 times better than Drake, an "artist" (if you can call him that..cuz he never made anything great) that has yet to prove himself
When you really think about it, kendrick doesn't have to prove anything anymore, he dropped his 4 certified classic albums already, and he's the only hip hop artist, besides Outkast, with that many CERTIFIED classics under his belt. Some other artists may have 3 or 4 fan-classics, but nothing written in stone like Lamar, nothing that is critic-proof.
You can subjectively and personally dislike DAMN, great for you, but it won't change the fact it is a musical masterpiece from a pure quality angle. You can dislike Mozart all you want, but you not undestand the reason why this guy gets so much praise doesn't change his genius status

Artists like Kendrick appear once every 40 years tbh.
Nas is my favorite rapper but no doubt Kendrick is far ahead on the list, specially when you put a lot of importance on the music.
Like Joe Budden said, you can even have the argument that Untitled is a classic, which would give Kendrick a 5th classic in his catalog. Crazy to think GKMC is his weakest project.
