Maybe it’s just a wrong timing thing but I tried to get into him, listened to voodoo a few times, I may have listened to brown sugar (the album) but I can’t remember bc if I did it was forgettable. I still need to listen to the album Really Love is on. Im open to understanding his hype but I still only like a scattered few of his tracks.

His music structure isn't standard which is what I think threw me off the most, like I'd typically be able to recognise where a song would crescendo for example, but he often time draws it back

You really have to listen for the little mixing/mastering tricks too or a lot of the detail can fly by. Everything is ridiculously layered
