Guys, really tried getting into D’Angelo but maybe I haven’t listened to the best essentials. I love ‘How does it feel’. Can anyone put me on to some top songs that aren’t top hits?

interview 4rm 1999-2000 and interview 4rm questlove about him post 2007 i think?: sverigesradio.se/avsnitt/1447193
this wasn't one of my standouts on Black Messiah when it first dropped but man has it become one of the most vital this past year. excellence.
I got that feeling too when I first tried
His music structure isn't standard which is what I think threw me off the most, like I'd typically be able to recognise where a song would crescendo for example, but he often time draws it back
You really have to listen for the little mixing/mastering tricks too or a lot of the detail can fly by. Everything is ridiculously layered
Just wanted to say I’ve officially been converted
Never heard a song as beautiful as Africa

Honestly, you rly can just listen to any D'Angelo song to get into him. He doesn't have a song lower than a 10/10

!https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fo-SJx6dGDk"What was it like, playing on the D’Angelo album?
The new music is heavier and has more guitar on it. A lot of the stuff I did is on different versions of the album. I did a solo on “Ain’t That Easy,” “The Charade,” “The Prayer,” and lots of rhythm parts."
so there are versions of these songs with jesse's playing
