This whole conversation totally overlooks the climax of Dave’s set. His trans friend got bullied into killing herself by the trans community. I haven’t vetted what he said, just assuming this is how it played out. Tyranny exists on both the left and right extremes. It’s absolutely mental tyranny.

You really can't believe that people reacted very strongly to her defending Chappelle? Have you ever been on Twitter? Group pile ons are pretty common and her tweet obviously would have gotten a lot of attention and animosity given the feelings towards Chapelle

Yeah I’ve been on twitter and seen group pile-ons, they usually don’t lead someone to kill themselves. I’d actually imagine the trans woman who befriended Dave Chapelle over his jokes about trans stuff would not kill themselves because there was a big tweet that got ratio’d, doesn’t that seem to go against the explicit reason they bonded?

I mean he said in the special he didn't know what other s*** she had going on but that clearly it wouldn't have helped. Obviously suicide can never be attributed to one factor, it's always more complicated. I just know from my own experience that social media can be pretty taxing on your mental health and I've never been in a position where hundreds or thousands were angry at me and arguing with me. I can't imagine what that's like.

People should have more consideration for other people's mental health on social media and very often they don't. You think especially people arguing with her would appreciate that a trans person probably has enough going on without making her feel like she's a traitor to who she is because she disagrees with them over a comedian.

Also if Dave does believe that it was a contributing factor that also means he thinks he played a part in what happened which must be pretty difficult to deal with and probably why he devoted half the special towards it.

I say this to say.... I don't know what's hard to believe about his story at all
