Idk if ppl here knows about Devo? new wave late 70s band with two sets of brothers from Ohio

Their legacy is strong, Rage Against The Machine covered them and the lead dude went on to make the soundtrack for The Sims 2?!

So where does Bowie play in it? he the one that set them up, went to see them live at a club when they were still unsigned, met them and said “Hey I’d like to produce you guys!”

Flew them over Germany (this was during his Berlin era) and paid for ALL their studio time to cover it all with the luxury of being produced by none other than king Brian Eno

Bowie was busy shooting movie Just A Gigolo but dropped by as much as he could for some sessions to do some jam and did record unused vocals, he called them the band of the future

    The rest is history

So yeah, no Sims 2 soundtrack if it wasn’t for Bowie in someway

Why am I stopping at Sims 2? I guess because it’s such a funny idea to me, it’s not like it just stops here, he scored Thor Ragnarok of all things, yes, also Lego Movie

Great post. I never knew Devo had such a Bowie connection.

Oh s*** that rings a bell when was that again?

Also their tour together fell apart in the early 90’s because Morrissey wasn’t happy how Bowie’s name was bigger than his on the billboard lol

Why he do him dirty like that tho? years of being so petty and disrespectful

Remember that time he released some single using the photo with Bowie I put at the bottom of my posts from edited out Bowie out of it?! like Jesus dude

    This happened tho

Which takes us back to this, a rare sight of Bowie playing guitar

Which also brings us to this

Placebo kinda fell out of relevancy but way back they were a VERY hot band, but way before all the crazy game, Bowie was already there day one

When they released their first self titled album in 1996 they were starting to make a buzz with their single Nancy Boy where you can hear the fusion of Bowie and T Rex fashion thrown into the grunge era, it got Bowie’s attention.

So what did he do? got them to open for him, the band jumped from shows for hundreds of people to thousands.

And as if that wasn’t enough, Bowie personally invited them to open his show for his 50’s birthday at Madison Square Garden (that was filled with superstars such as Pixies, The Cure, The Smashing Pumpkins, Lou Reed...)

It didn’t stop there as Bowie then worked with them for their second album on a marvelous song which I recommend absolutely everyone to check it out if you haven’t already, it’s probably one of the better Bowie collaboration or featuring there is out there.

There is a funny connection to make with this and the post I made about Bowie’s connection to Devo, as Bowie described Devo as the band of the future he also stated Placebo were the future, and he wasn’t wrong, they both have a legacy now and brought something new .

That’s why I like to post that, you can see through out his history, Bowie REALLY fished and pushed for upcoming talents and he didn’t slow down as he got older.

Even during his reclusion fighting his illness, he met Lorde and said he saw her as the future of music, when he passed they had her make a whole tribute for him at the Brits awards, not a bunch of big names sharing the stage to play different hits, just her singing his songs with Bowie’s longtime backing band (the first time they all got back together on stage in years).

She said he inspired Melodrama and it is also believed they recorded a song together, mmh?

Bowie was also the reason LCD Soundsystem reunited after a conversation they had together.

yea man that's one of the many reasons why i love this man
he really was all for the art man, he was really INTO music and never stopped discovering and exploring, taking notes from the younger artists that came up...
he (or his producer iirc) also said blackstar had some TPAB and death grips influence, which is just wild to read in itself lmao
but yeah like you said he literally never stopped loving the arts, thats how you never go out of style tho

His legacy also speaks sometimes just in music, without stories needed.

Close your eyes while listening to this song and tell me it doesn’t sound like if Bowie tried to redo some Let’s Dance type song today:

And what about this next one? I swear it could be on Station To Station:

Imagine they’re covers of Bowie and it’s pretty mind blowing lol
