Bringing some aesthetics itt and god is Heathen beautiful, modern Low?

He did play Low in full when he toured for Heathen, imagine witnessing that

  • Mar 21, 2020

I come to realize the better Bowie albums are the ones without covers, but man who else be picking Neil Young and Pixies to cover on one album? altho they both are not their best songs, him picking those in particular showcases his actual attention to their craft and not just sucking some of their hits

Angels to me really sounds like Bowie trying to recapture some of that energy

Of course it’s not a redo but you know

what's this I'm finding out about a Drum n Bass (Earthling) album

Yeah it’s actually in my top Bowie albums lol but to some it will be more at the bottom because as you can imagine a lot of his audience that were sold onto Life On Mars or Space Oddity are not necessarily into that scene lol

But I love it, it’s all balls out pure Bowie doing what the f*** he wants, loves, and in touch with what was going on, the fact it landed for his 50th birthday makes it even more a f*** off to purists lol hell he even remixed on tour drum n bass versions of his old classics from the 70’s haha, that to me define what Bowie was.

It may sound a little TOO 90’s drum n bass at some times but isn’t it what makes it stand out and so colorful? It’s a trip through out the whole listen and definitely feels like cocaine lol

What I love even more about it is that despite the over the top production, his vocals and his songwriting on it at the core sounds more Bowie trademark than ever in a long time in someway, which I feel makes it for a great contrast.

You also get some jazzy elements sometimes, Bowie would bring that more often as time went by, all the way to his final album which also brings back some of that mix.

It’s very NIN influenced too, Bowie worked with Trent Reznor for both Outside.1 and this album.

I’m Afraid Of Americans (used recently in one of the Purge movie) is from that album Earthling, it’s hands down (along with I’m Deranged used in Lost in Highway by David Lynch) in the top 5 songs of his run through out the 90’s, if not in general:

    thanks fam, beautiful a***ysis!

Sounds like a wild ride and one I'd very much love to try out, I f*** with I'm Deranged already from Lost Highway, mostly the soundtrack is what stuck with me from that film.

Will give Outside.1 a listen too! Always excited to see greats try something completely new but still leave their trademark in that lane.

You saying there's some Station to Station drum n bass remixes out here?

Not STS but he did do some Andy Warhol (the song, from the iconic album Hunky Dory, which Life On Mars is from too, to give a picture of the “blasphemy”) drum n bass remix, which I’m sure has led to severe heart attacks by his dusty fans at his shows

Seven Years In Tibet is another strong favorite of mine

Every time it starts I feel like I’m playing GoldenEye 64 all over again, doesn’t it sound just like the ost of that game? like the drums

While we’re on that whole era: did you know Bowie did the artwork for Outside himself? It is the only time he ever did so, and one of the rare occasions we had a glance at his painting hobby

Here is his portrait of Iggy Pop:

Who else was doing that? talking to the head of MTV and airing s*** out

Listen to them in shambles even in the background around 40 seconds in, they were not ready

The problem was MTV couldn’t be honest and say America doesn’t like black music or ppl. Disco was so hated at this time even Michael Jackson was called a n****r when Beat It played on rock stations. If you’ve seen videos of MTV’s old format, you’d understand why they couldn’t play The Pointer Sisters as much as the Go-Go’s

Station to Station is the best album and had the best aesthetic tbh.

Minus the whole Thin White Duke stuff.
