yup 100% the one
All this got me back heavy into Young Americans, such feel good which isn’t often coming from Bowie, song title screams sunny days

underrated ass album, feel like its always overshadowed by diamond dogs

True dat, I reckon lot of stans wants and asks more of the artistic Bowie and therefor downplays YA because it’s not weird enough
But in many ways it’s the most authentic Bowie album as Bowie was obsessed with soul, so there we just have him and his passion

John Lennon co-signed, playing guitar on it
Nah I’m more cool with it now, I don’t rank Heathen so high for nothing lol is just I think his all original songs albums are the best material front to back
But YA growing heavy on me rn

Imo the DD photo shoot with the dog is maybe the hardest Bowie concept s***
I wish they would have went with the painting of him and the dog tbh but maybe I can see how it makes sense to have picked the other one where he lays down as it fits more the vinyl gatefold altho they still used the other one inside the album art
But yeah imo there’s a reason we see more shirts of him and the dog on it
So brazzy to think that DD while today is rightfully loved? was more underrated back then, I think
But either way it was yet still was influence enough that it took a big role in Metal Gear Solid’s life
Hot take, don’t hate me: I like Midge Ure cover of it better, think the whole synths section is cooler
Funny thing when first hearing it during MGSV I thot: wow did they just do a remix? or like a re-recorded version Bowie did I never heard?
But no, it’s Midge Ure (ex Ultravox) himself doing an impressive Bowie eerie similar vocal performance
Beware of the Diamond Dogs
January 30, 1974
Bowie is at a hotel with Belgian painter Guy Peellaert to brainstorm about what the cover for Diamond Dogs would be, they both then go to join Terry O'Neill at a photography studio to start the shoot.
It was only when we were at the session that he finally asked me if I would do a painting for him. The idea was so interesting I couldn't refuse.
Bowie and Peellaert unveils the final album cover.
Later in October of the same year, “It's Only Rock 'n Roll” by The Rolling Stones is released with a painting by Guy Peellaert for the album cover.

David Bowie, 1976:
Mick Jagger was silly. I mean, he should never have shown me anything new. I went over to his house and he had all these Guy Peellaert pictures around and said, “What do you think of this guy?” I told him I thought he was incredible. So I immediately phoned him up. Mick's learned now, as I've said. He will never do that again.
March 8, 1974
Guy Peellaert releases his book The Rock Dreams and does an exhibition for it at the Rainbow Room in London, of course both Angie and David Bowie are there.
The Rock Dreams painting for the cover includes Bowie in the pantheon: Bowie is now a legend cemented along with other greats.
They’re easy to identify, I’ll let you guess 😌
My favorite from the book, a beautiful painting of Bowie immortalized with his great friend Lou Reed.
But there is so many other beautiful pieces in it that I highly recommend just to check out the whole thing:
