Damn this was boring. Mank and Roma are two well made films I can think of that bored me.
Embarrassingly bad film.
Where would you rank it among other films of his? I'm thinking about watching it but I'm not a big Fincher fan for the most part. And what's so bad about it?

Literally his worst
Such a huge disappointment.
It’s boring, badly paced, it focuses too much on one dimensional characters like his secretary, there are too many homages for the sake of homage. It’s shallow even when it tries to say something unusual and potentially interesting about socialism.
But worst of all, the film tries to portray an unknown truth about the making of “Citizen Kane” and it ends up doing the opposite. The screenplay is based on an article written by Pauline Kael. But this article has been debunked by serious historical researches and was just another shameful attempt to bring Welles’ legacy down.
I thought this was gonna be more about the writing and making of citizen Kane and would be like the aviator. I’m really enjoy all the politics it feels like they’re trying real hard to compare the social climate of then to now
Embarrassed it took me until Mank to realize that The Social Network is Fincher recreating Citizen Kane
Just wanted to hop in and say that I think this sucked so so bad and I'm interested in what other people think of it

hard agree, also can't rock with it at all bc it's basically anti Orson Welles propaganda lol (Hollywood has long hated the man), it propagates a myth that has long been disproven

Oh yeah dude, I love Welles and to see the guy slandered again long after his death is just so frustrating, the only man who can have directed the universally agreed-upon greatest film of all time and still be underrated
I'd have room to forgive the movie if it wasn't SO BORING, I have no idea what Gary Oldman was going for here, the cinematography is ass and doesn't manage to capture what it's going for at all, and it's filled with really, really terrible dialogue, Fincher's still one of the modern GOATs though and I imagine The Killer will easily be a return to form

i wouldn't really consider David Fincher a GOAT, his output is a little hit or miss for me, but i definitely agree with all of your critiques of the film
