It's a wooden period in the film

Same. Probably the most GOAT year for film in recent memory.

The least most accessible Fincher Film for sure

I think so too. 2019 was too goat. I think prior to that was 2014

  • like others have said it's great from a technical standpoint...solid acting and score...story and dialogue didn't really hold my attention much though and at certain points was flat out wondering why they made this at all lol

I compare this to Roma. It looks nice, but it's boring.

Bet you only compared it to Roma because it’s B&W.

    Have you seen CK?

No. It's because I was bored watching Roma even though the photography was nice.

And no, I haven't watched it. But I watched Mank twice this weekend.

Don’t know what Roma and Mank have in common at all man.

Only reason why I can think that you compared the 2 are because they’re both on Netflix and they’re B&W.

Not at all. Watched Roma recently, thought it looked nice, but it waz boring.

Mank looks nice, but it's hard to stay awake.

Technical and stylish, but the story never seems to hit you where it needs to.

The score is elite tho, that's an Oscar right there.

on the one hand I sometimes think some of these ageism/sexism complaints in Hollywood are overblown...however there does seem to be a trend/fetish for making movies about old white dudes who are troubled geniuses and seem to have a handful of cute, young women around to be understanding while serving their every wish lol I'm not sure Mank completely falls into this category but there are a couple weird moments (topless woman in the room with other writers, Mank's wife telling him to sneak off with Seyfried's character, etc.)...idk ppl make a point about Woody Allen's films all having that similar narrative but it's not just him

I don’t rly mind it as much for Mank because they made Mank about 20 years older than he actually was at the time

But in general, we see a ton of movies now that have diverse representation in general, so I don’t rly mind Mank not being about that.

To me it was a bad movie.
I really looked forward to seeing it, but the story was felt like it required me to have done allot of research before viewing it and all the time cuts did not help.
Made wanna see a documentary about Orson Welles and learn about him
I also felt police chief Gordon was wrong for the role

If this is the movie Fincher has been dreaming about making and studio’s has kept not wanting to make, I side with the studio’s for once

  • Sonyomom

Actually pretty ridiculous how good of a year it was just went tot nothingness

This, anyone who says “movies been trash the past few years” is just saying that to push a certain narrative.
