This is true
While I’m here, who had actually watched Inland Empire? Always heard it was more terrifying then Mulholland Drive but not a better movie
Multiple times
But what if it's not him..
If we look at his BFI list, the films on that list from American directors are:
Lynch
Coppola
Scorsese
Mackendrick
Spike Lee
Mackendrick is dead and didn't do any TV so he's out.
Coppola didn't do any TV so he's out.
Spike Lee is out unless this mf is saying She's Gotta Have It is his favorite TV series ever in which case... what the f***.
That leaves Scorsese and Lynch.
Scorsese's done TV but he's never been the head of a show so unless he's giving him too much credit for Boardwalk Empire, that takes him out. Plus Scorsese is working on too much s*** that we actually know about to have something secret.
A name not on his list that's been thrown around is Soderbergh but it's the same situation as Scorsese. Plus Soderbergh released a film like a month ago.
It's Lynch.

Mulholland Drive on steroids.
Most terrifying movie I’ve seen.
It has a lot less beauty than some of his other work. It just looks straight ugly.
And, in a word, it’s… exhausting.
But… when you tap into it, on the right frequency... It definitely feels like a monumental achievement in its own right.

I’m definitely looking forward to the Criterion release coming later this yr but I may try and find a DVD for this somewhere. I’ve known about Inland Empire for yrs but just held off on watching it. It’s crazy but,I really do admire the fact that Lynch doesn’t really wanna scare you but haunt you,Mulholland Drive stuck with me for a couple weeks after watching it.
But yeah,I’ve heard this is pretty much his apex in terms of this style of filmmaking and that Inland Empire can be overwhelming at times.
Who ever in NY, inland empire remastered version is playing at IFC Center.
I love this city
Is this likely to be what we thought was the Twin Peaks related project from a couple years ago?

They're both pretty f***ing scary b
But inland empire is 3 real hours and feels like every second of that. Like a constant winkies/black lodge feeling of dread for the ENTIRE TIME
It's good tho, but not for everyone. Definitely his most esoteric joint

Inland Empire really seems like a response to how well received and liked Mulholland Drive was. I don’t think Lynch liked the idea of people feeling like they understood Mulholland Drive so,he had to make something that was truly off the deep end

I don't really understand inland empire too much, it's VERY abstract. But I got the broad gist of it (I think anyway ) but it was still hard af regardless
I like Mulholland drive more tho, personally. And lost highway too. But anything TP related is top 1 from him imo
And the super crazy thing I like about Lynch is that,he truly has a sense of humor lol.(check out that short on Netflix where he’s questioning a monkey) He gets a kick outta f***ing with people and it’s obvious.

Ima cop the DVD and pick the perfect time to watch it with surround sound and all. I’m gonna anticipate being paranoid that whole night lol
Nicolas Cage did an AMA yesterday and was asked if he'd been in touch with Lynch recently. Cage said he wanted him for a role in Massive Talent but Lynch declined saying he had concerns about COVID and didn't want to leave his house. Filming for Massive Talent took place in October 2020.
