They always make alternative versions of characters no one cries as much

Some ridiculous some cool . I’d rather see a Black Batman than nazi Batman lmao

I get the perspective of f*** the nerdy subtly alt right butthurt that comes with the complaints about moves like this

But as a black man/former kid who only had Cyborg and Static I don’t like how we are used as one off headline grabbers instead of actually making Lucius’ son/Black Batman or black Captain America/Falcon as important to Marvel/DC lore as a Batman Spiderman Superman

Like it would be much cooler if that effort was put into Falcon/Miles Morales or a new non Bat named Fox family character without them just being a black mantle holder of 100 year old characters

Yes I understand I feel a little differently though because I’ve always wanted some of the most iconic characters to be black as well

Although it is a problem that these studios would rather milk the most iconic characters rather than improve the rest of their universes

    As a black man

They’ll do this a million times with iconic characters for a couple issues of a comic to get quick headlines instead of creating new iconic characters with actual new lore that can have their own media franchises on the level of Batman/Superman/Spiderman

And as a black man I disagree completely. Batman and Superman were created in a time when it would be unthinkable to make them black. They never had a chance to be. It’s time they right that wrong.

And if they’ll do this a million times with iconic characters then I say f*** it - good. That’s a million more heroes black boys and girls can grow up with.

    math fifty

If it wasnt virtue signaling there wouldve been a black batman earlier

If it wasnt virtue signaling they wouldnt have dropped black batman at the most racially tense time period since the civil rights movement

Its the same s*** as niggas posting a black square on IG lmao.

Is it performative that they’re doing this now in 2020? No doubt. But it’s better late than never.

lmao the fact that they've done this multiple times and none of them sticked and you're still viewing it as some sort of wrong that needs to be righted speaks to the logic that we just need more black heroes instead lol

Just because a character puts on an iconic costume doesn’t mean he has the same lore as his predecessor

For example, Miles Morales is a kid from Brooklyn who has both his parents in his life while Peter Parker is a loner geek from Manhattan. They’ve both lived completely different lives but still carry the Spider-Man identity

Damn I might be a batman fan now

    thats exactly my point lol

slapping an established costume/moniker on a new POC will always be less cool than giving that marginalized group a hero of their own

Honestly depends on context, Black Green Lantern probably one of the bigger names in comics, and new Ms Marvel is a big deal, and there's also Miles Morales who's probably the next most famous character in that line of superheros

Honestly don’t like this fake woke s***. Give us an ORIGINAL character or promote the black characters you already have. No one promotes heroes like Blue Marvel but he’s like Marvels version of superman(with a much more original and unique story) and they could make dope ass MCU movies with him. A black batman simply puts him in the shadows of, you know, the real Batman.

Dawg the point is why make a “black superman” or “black batman”. Why not literally make more and promote characters like black panther/blue marvel/Storm. Make an iconic hero with a great story and costume etc that also happens to be black. Not a f***ing re-skinned version of a white man.

To be fair that run of Green Arrow and Black GL popularized both characters

And as a 90’s baby I know GL as John Stewart because of the cartoons

Same for Miles Morales to kids now

So it’s different if the characters actually take enough to get other media appearances but when have we seen that with Batman or Superman lol.

I’m surprised @ Miles Morales success I can’t lie though.

Amazing niggas don’t see it as simple as this lmao

In 20 years we still gon be clapping at “black” versions of Superman Batman etc lol
