havent read the article but seeing as how this is a DC/WB check he might be more motivated
I was going to say this as well. That DC money is going to be too hard for Luca to pass up, would probably be the biggest check of his career
I’ve been saying for a while that Gunn was going to really let directors cook, and he’d give them creative freedom to make what they want
I know a lot of people were thinking Gunn’s DC would be full of movies that have that trademark Gunn tone….
But Gunn has always came off as a creative who is big on having full creative freedom of his projects, so I couldn’t imagine he would try to control the vision of other directors
I believe the DCU is going to be super diverse when it comes to tone and style
Sgt rock looking at Jay Garrick flash running across the battlefield
JSA set up

yeah ppl forget the guys roots r f***ing troma of all things ,, that alone says enough abt his outlook
feel like they’re trying to do too much too early which could backfire or could work idk..

feel like if the quality is there and the films are good then they worry about the continuity of things later. just focus on making the films good.

Yeah at this point Im not concerned about in universe continuity and all that. Just give us good films. Seems like that's exactly what Gunn is focusing on

A lot of what DC is, and the fun for me, really, is in the world-building, not just the story-building. I don't think of DCU as being, “Oh, this is a story we're telling over multiple films and TV shows about one big bad.” I don't want to have to do, as an audience member, the homework to have to see every single thing. It is more of a connected universe that exists within one place, which is the DCU, which will have differences depending on who the artists and the directors and the production designers are that are making the shows.
Gunn is definitely not doing the standard MCU-style cinematic universe.
It's more about world building where each character can exist in their own pocket - this gives him the freedom to bring in all sorts of different filmmakers and creatives and let them loose.
"Cinematic universe" in the DCU seems more like a shared sandbox for film-makers to play in.

Kinda like this but also wish we finally had a solid DCU similar to the MCU style.

Just wish we got the Batman movie after Superman. Need Batman vs clayface live action so bad.

honestly the problem with that MCU style interconnected story is that its not manageable in the long run, esp if you have both tv and films covering your universe.
ain't nobody watching every single show/film to be in-sync with the broader story arc. it becomes like homework for the audience.

Yeah true. I only watched a few marvel shows that came out.

Gunn is clever. He's seen what worked for MCU and what didn't, so for DCU he's better positioned to guide the ship.
Also I kinda like that he's focusing more on the world building - it helps keep DCU different from MCU.
