A major reason is that a lot of people aren’t religious anymore. Religion has always been a source of purpose and comfort regarding the afterlife. People revolve around their pleasures on earth, which is why they want to avoid thinking about death at all costs.

idk I've never been religious, never enjoyed going to church or getting involved into religious activities

yeah I feel like religion is the entire spirituality pack, which embodies theory and practice to a larger human scale, meanwhile spirituality on its own is the individual trait
