We should end the mass incarceration/end the war on d****/end private prison industry
Where would you put the murderers and rapists than?
she’s addresses that exact point
it’s under 150 pages i recommend giving it a try

he talkin bout the phrasing of the slogan tho, not its ideas. a book wont change the way most ppl interpret "defund" unless most ppl also read the book or smthn, assuming the book expands on what "defund" means
most people would understand why ppl ask to defund the police if they understand the prison system
if you can’t understand why people are using it as a slogan then you should do some reading and then make a conclusion for yourself.
all i am suggesting is that you fully comprehend the argument as to why people ask for the police to be defunded. if you disagree fine, but op can really benefit either way from reading this very easy to read text
That’s a fair response
thanks
i don’t try to push my ideas down ppl throats
i just think even if ur going to disagree, you should be educated on why you should disagree. she really does distill a lot of the arguments as to why ppl are calling for the end of the police in this book.
thanks

It’s not wheather I disagree or not
It’s what the white people in the suburbs that live in swing states will think about defund the police
Same reason dems should drop assault weapon bans, too many single issue voters
No, you need to "appeal" to them because to you politics is nothing more than winning an election every 2-4 years and you have decided that the best way of doing so is to get these so called "moderate white people" to vote for whatever cause it is you support. so youll take something like defunding the police, and instead of standing on your principles and explaining it or whatever, youll water it down to make it palatable as if people are dumb as f*** or something

sure and i agree w/ that idea and think anyone in general would benefit from reading something that succinctly explains an idea that's muddled by its slogan. the problem is that most ppl won't do that and expecting them to just to understand a slogan that many will intuitively misinterpret from its actual meaning is too much work for a flashy slogan.
like i said to op, the slogan is marketing, and effective marketing isn't gonna require ppl to read a fair amt to understand. the slogan plays w/ ppls intuitive interpretation of "defund" in a counterproductive way

Yes that’s how messaging exactly works!

except at the end of the day, people aren't dumb. you don't want the message to be "defund the police" because thats not what you want. These "moderate white people" aren't going to all of a sudden support defunding the police just because you give it a different name lmao
Also OP has shown no actual a***ysis of the impact of this slogan and its effect on voters/voting etc., compared to expectations. pure conjecture based on his s***ty liberal views.

Biden did exceptional compared to dems down ballot, we lost double digit seats & should have won in Maine and North Carolina

And? Where is the proof that this was because of the slogan "defund the police"

Ref: all negative ads directed towards democrats last year
Agree with the sentiment but that sounds scary to 80% of the US, progressives are trash with messaging

Nope, this does not constitute proof of anything. Where is the actual date to back it up. Which of those dems that lost (that actually had a capability of winning) lost because they supported defunding the police

nah not all of a sudden, but as it is the slogan turns many away because they read the word "defund" and think oh ok no more funding for police, which isn't the same as reducing funding for the police n placing that elsewhere within the justice system
curious ppl may look into what that means cus they'll read "defund" and think "ok that seems a lil extreme..what's goin on here, n why?" -- n then they'll learn the ideas
but less curious and more wary ppl will read that n dismiss it bc the word defund carries a different connotation in most contexts except for how it's used in "defund the police". it's about gettin ur foot in the door -- "defund" isn't inviting to a lot of people unfamiliar with its use in that very specific and uncommon context; a different word could be more inviting, though it'd likely be less sharp and biting of a slogan

You have to be kidding
Republicans lie and say that every dem supported it
They said it to Biden did when Harris was a DA for gods sake
