Side characters like who? Not really any side characters here besides the swordsmiths
Basically everyone who hasn't really been given substantial screentime before this season, so everyone that's not Tanjiro and Nezuko. None of these folks have had any character work and now we have entire episodes devoted to their backstory without a proper introduction. Muichiro hasn't really become anymore familiar than when he was first introduced with the other Hashira.
The last 2 arcs did a lot better in properly introducing the characters where the any flashbacks if any didn't feel like an unnecessary sidetrack to an undercooked action sequence.

You didn't see Tengen til the very start of season 3
You didn't see Rengoku until the movie
Muchirio has just as much screen time at this point as Rengoku and Tengen did lol
And hashiras are like the staple of the show so wouldn't really classify them as side characters
They all main characters
What side characters?
Talking about the swordsmiths? I mean they vital to the success of the slayers
Basically everyone apart from Tanjiro and Nezuko, I'm not nearly invested enough in either Genya or Muichiro to have whole episodes devoted to their back stories, and have them have revelations.

Same with Rengoku, same with Tengen
You already been introduced to the characters and now they just showing you what they can do and why they are hashiras
Would agree they dragging the season but I mean this is a very short arc so they tryna stretch it to 12 episodes lol
Structure it better, instead of having every other episode be a flashback. Do more character work in the first few episodes of the season, where they were doing world building, we didn't really need to dedicate that much time into the training montage. Mitsuri's character building has mostly happened the post credits scenes instead of on screen for example.

They just following the manga bro lol
It's literally step by step right out of the manga

And they actually built up their characters well, in my opinion. You got a much better sense of who they are as characters without really needing flashback/exposition episodes really.

You do realize Rengoku has like 15 total minutes of screen time right?
Muchiro backstory was longer than the amount of time he was actually on screen lol

They're 2 different mediums, you don't necessarily adapt a manga page for page. You have to also be able to recognise some chapters are a little clunky and adjust them accordingly.

But that's what they been doing

And I felt more invested in his character than I did Muichiro, and I didn't need an entire episode of exposition to get invested. It just feels very clunky, like they can't really flesh his character out without the exposition.

They shouldn't be going page for page then. it's not translating like that.

How tho? Rengoku barely even got a backstory

Well buckle up because Mitsuri getting her own episode as well

Real, and they still feeled out his character, he was brilliantly written. Granted, they did a bit of backstory after he died, but wasn't as invasive as the backstories have been this season.

I feel like they've done the same thing with all the hashiras so far personally
Muchiro and Mitsuri are actually being way more fleshed out by getting their own episodes

They've done enough in the post credit scenes ffs, couldn't these flashbacks be inserted in the 1st few episodes. This is an action Anime and these flashbacks are disengaging.

They just following the flow of the manga
Plus if you read the manga everyone who read it knows this the slowest paced arc until the final fights

I don't think they've been more fleshed out so far, simply had more screen time. Muichiro and Genya are doing 180s on the characters we were introduced to without really having those introduced characters get fleshed out.
Actually wondering how they gonna do the rest of the series
Thr hashira training arc is next, kinda too short to be it's own season so I'm gonna guess we gonna get 2 more fleshed put 24 episode seasons

Muchiro lost his memory, and they showing you why
Genya is the brother of Sanemi and can't use breathing techniques so they showing you why he can't and how he and his brother became slayers
Like idk what you're looking for

Shouldn't have given us that inception s*** at the very start of the season. I really don't like the pacing of the season so far.

Blame the manga creator then, idk what to tell you lol

They aren't showing us why, and more telling us. it's exposition. In all honesty I didn't even realise Genya doesn't do any breathing until you just mentioned it, but they didn't really explain why he has demon powers either.
