Villainous BThey aren't showing us why, and more telling us. it's exposition. In all honesty I didn't even realise Genya doesn't do any breathing until you just mentioned it, but they didn't really explain why he has demon powers either.
They explained pretty clearly why Genya can't use breathing techniques lol
Wasn't nothing cray, he just doesn't have the talent

I guess the pacing had me miss it. Everything is so spaced out man. Should've given us exposition episodes for upper moon 2&3, those were a lot more interesting character interactions.

Comparing Mist and Love to Flame and Sound is wild. At least Flame and Sound, while not around for THAT long, were much more involved with the main cast.
Tengen was there from episode 1 and we at least saw him doing things, being himself, interacting with the crew, and the structure and pacing of the arc was better so the times tengen wasnt there we weren’t just scratching our heads wondering wtf is happening.
For example Muichiro was sitting in that bubble for how many episodes? 4 or 5? Love hashira has been on her way running through the woods for 4 or 5 episodes? We didn’t wait nearly as long between impactful scenes for Rengoku and Tengen.
Couple all of this with these two upper moons somehow coming off less threatening than Akaza and somehow even less threatening than Gyutaro.
This just isn’t a great arc overall. Felt it when I was reading it and it’s even worse watching.
May 31, 2023Villainous BBasically everyone who hasn't really been given substantial screentime before this season, so everyone that's not Tanjiro and Nezuko. None of these folks have had any character work and now we have entire episodes devoted to their backstory without a proper introduction. Muichiro hasn't really become anymore familiar than when he was first introduced with the other Hashira.
The last 2 arcs did a lot better in properly introducing the characters where the any flashbacks if any didn't feel like an unnecessary sidetrack to an undercooked action sequence.
This logic is flawed like upper moon pointed out. New Hashiras are introduced every arc. Everyone has had a backstory besides maybe inosuke. Genya should be put in the same boat as zenitsu, inosuke, and nezuka. Not being interested in certain characters is vastly different than saying they’re useless to the overall anime

Yea I’m never worried about the last 3 episodes of demon slayer but early to mid cour be testing my patience at times
I understand wanting to adapt s*** 1 to 1 but a studio as great as ufotable has to be able to recognize when they need to add scenes to flesh things out or tie things together better
Not just have tanjiro standing in the middle of the woods fending off the same swoop attack for 3 minutes while we quick cut to muichiro in a bubble for 4 seconds to remind us he’s still in there

Yea, this arc is super short so they definitely dragged some episodes to try to make it to 12 episodes total

i know this has been said a million times, but the animation of this show is just f***ing amazing. the storyline and actual exposition might not be great, but the animation makes it a must watch.
imagine if an actual GOAT battle Shonen like Yu Yu Hakusho got this level of animation
it’d be over
