It seems like you don’t want it to be true to the book.

I feel like a wider color palette would be a cool artistic decision for a movie adaptation of Dune if it stays true to the story. I'm not sure if a completely faithful adaptation will work but I'll guess we'll see.

The most important thing when adapting a book is getting the story right. Visual creative liberties are perfectly acceptable imo.

Not rlly an argument. The costuming / interior sets all look boring af. They COULD use color if they wanted to. The muted tones were purely a creative decision.

I mean look at how the Tuareg (actual desert ppl) dress

People weren't talking about the actual clothes, they were talking about color filters, but I'll let you cook.

How does that color variation work into stillsuits though? The best I've seen is some fan art

Given that all other DUNE adaptations have taken visual liberties, I'm more than fine with this sticking with as close as an accurate representation to the novel as possible.

Sure, but if the costumes are part of the story then you’ve gotta respect that. The fremen only go out at night iirc so a colorful stillsuit would be pointless.

Fair enough. I only wish the visuals looked more otherworldy/creative. Still excited dont get me wrong.

arrival's color palette was also super bleak. i think he'll make up for it though.

but watching the trailers again, i think we'll be in for a surprise. especially the non-compressed trailer. looks so much better.

he got a point. The trailer does look very by-the-numbers and in general 99.9% of hollywood movies nowadays are polished turds

Marketing in the time of Covid. Gotta sell by the tried and true tactics. No way Denis would have wanted to end the trailer with the worm
