Lmaoooo let's ask Abel himself what does he have to say on the matter?
Definitely possible tbh ppl clowning u way too much
Could definitely see Max Martin being a JoJo stan..
it's def. possible
stuff like this happens pretty frequently in music imo
For example, the bass line for this song:
inspired this song
there are probs better examples of this where the melodies sound more similar but this is the first example that came to mind

both classics
the original beat of Kiss Land comes from Silky Johnson's beat tape Hater Of The Year
Kiss Land samples two songs from that mixtape:
Nothin' Gonna Change
and
Desert Rose
Silky Johnson worked with The Weeknd and DannyBoy Styles to create the titular track, there's photos of him in the studio with Lamar idk where they are anymore
he did an AMA on KTT1 a couple of years back:

808s & dark grapes ii was released before hater of the year with the same instrumental
lmao imagine Max Martin watching anime
I'll give you Belong To The World only because they didn't let him sample Machine Gun,but all these others
You let your personal issues with the weeknd cloud your judgement about whats what lol.
Just talking s*** out of your ass any chance you get.
I don't get it if you don't like him don't interact it's not that hard
Definitely stole it lol. But musicians accidentally writing existing melodies is more common than you think so it might be a coincidence
And nothing has come off any of those?
I know about the lawsuits, and literally none of them went through lol.
You just sound like a bitter old man.
neither abel nor the producer was listening to f***ing jojo’s bizarre bum ass adventures while working on anything
This makes me wonder what will happen with copyright laws when we reach a point where every sound and melody you can think of has already been made by someone at some point in the past. It would literally be impossible to make something original.
OP sounds like it's merely a coincidence they sound a bit the same, I mean it's not a particularly complex melody to make. Really basic stuff
You're always in this sxn with your snarky comments thinking you're funny or some s***.
It's clear that you don't like the weeknd nowadays so I don't see a point of you annoying everyone in this sxn
Get a load of this lmfao

Yeah I find it strange too, to me the similarity is obvious. (Not like I'll be losing sleep at night for the "clowning" haha, I just talked about something I noticed.)
I think both Weeknd and Jojo are each one of the best things to come from their genres/worlds (one from the aural, the other from the visual), so I can't be anything but happy that a musician I enjoy found inspiration in a series I enjoy. And did a great job with it, creating a very replayable, sunny track.
I don't follow Max Martin enough to know what he does in his leisure time, or what he likes to watch, but I know Abel watches anime, and he's been pretty vocal about it.
Thus said, considering his history (the sample in Coming Down), and the similarity between the bit of the soundtrack I mentioned in the first post, and the melodic line of Blinding Lights, I find it hard to believe that Abel wasn't inspired by it.
Knowing his admiration for anime, I think he has already watched one of the best titles of the genre (in this case Jojo), thus said, he may have made it in 20 minutes, but I doubt the melody was 100% his own creation.
Unrelated, but this whole "quick songwriting" instantly reminded me of the Zane Lowe interview where Abel said that he "literally wrote Starboy (the track) in 30 minutes".
