It’s unfortunate that his opinions IRL are embarrassing but that’s most artists.

A lot of those lyrics sound hilarious when you reading them out loud (a random new artist today singing "you remind me of my jeep" and yall would laugh them out the room.)
Your point about the comical lack of subtlety in post-Kelly r&b is on point, but Kelly is kind of an exception beyond that cause his melody game is so elite
Which brings this whole issue to another point: these r&b mfs just suck at melodies now tbh

....have you actually listened to that man's lyrics? He can get quite toxic at times.
Now yes, he does make beautiful songs about love (him and HER really f***ed around and made probably the biggest R&B hit of last decade) but it's some "aint s*** nigga-ness" about a lot of his joints lol.And Freudian is way better written wise than Case Study.
