  • I watched this video today about Zach Bia's rise, his label Field Trip Records was funded by an unnamed 'OG' or 'Big Bro'.
My theory is Drake was the one that put up the huge upfront needed for Field Trip, and Field Trip is a label he has his hands in but doesn't have to be as hands on as he was with OVO Sound, Zach does all of the boots on the ground work and Drake has the connections/funding/knowledge.
I have noticed Drake likes to have his hands in a lot of pies - much like Vertical Integration with a business.
His producers for instance are all directly/indirectly signed to him.
Boi1da , Maneesh, Noel are all signed to OVO. Vinylz is signed to Mr Morgan - the head of OVO. Jahaan Sweet is signed to Boi1da. OZ is managed by Simon G- - a good friend of Drake's. Leon Thomas was also managed by Simon G when Leon was producing/writing for Drake around CLB. BNYX is signed to Field Trip Records. It's as if any producer that has a long term relationship with Drake is signed to him in some way. (Other than Tay Keith and Gordo but I'm not sure) I wouldn't be suprised if O Lil Angel AKA Octavian was now signed to Drake.

The latest single 'Doghouse' is almost a Drake x Field Trip showcase - features and produced by Zach Bia's signees.

It's not my video but in short it's a backstory on Bia and how he had an initial silent investor.

Thought the title said "Did Drake f*** Zack Bia"

I feel this is another reason why Drake makes a lot of the decisions he does, he is thinking with business in mind first.

How is it not? Drake is getting a slice of publishing from the producers that are signed to either him or his friends

Drake literally has to pay people to support him

vertical integration is a specific phenomenon that involves the acquisition and control of a significant portion of the chain of production so that production of the final commodity occurs using goods derived from complete control of the private owner

drake having a vertically integrated system would theoretically involve drake owning a label for artists, a studio and equipment for them to record in, a venue for them to perform in, a media company for them to be promoted with, and/or a factory to produce his label's own merch and physical music.

him having investments and control in his own labels and leverage in other labels is simply a phenomenon of founding ownership and stakeholder ownership

But it isn't as simple as founding ownership as he will directly work with artists and producers on the roster that he's signed, he's making all and taking a portion of their backend at the same time, it isn't fully vertical integration and I don't think that's possible for a music artist but it is in the same vein and far more than what other artists do
