Yes and no. Drake gets access to an audience that wouldn't listen to Drake but the Atlanta artists get on a platform which they can't be on by themselves.

For example, I didn't really listen to any or very little Drake solo music from 2018-2022 but I still couldn't escape him because he was on Future's album, Thug, Lil Baby. Songs like Life Is Good, Sicko Mode etc. put Drake into every audience playlist.

I’m talking about rap as a whole. Pre 2015 it wasn’t the dominant cultural force like we see now, where every Tom d*** and Harry could give a #1

This lowkey isnt a good thing

In the end drake will go down as one of the most influential musical talents period. No one will ever say that about Kendrick

No one was listening to Hiipower and Money trees saying that's what they wanted to be like but everyone wanted to make best i ever had and marvins room

Because Drake actually took risks by singing and rapping. Before started from the bottom drake was easy target for clowning due to insecure masculinity

Kendrick his whole career has always been living off the fumes that Snoop, pac, nwa etc created

21 was already poppin with Savage Mode and him being in the XXL freshman list. Even prior to that with the Slaughter Tape with him and Zaytoven. Drake once again hopped on his wave

The modern ethos is Future, Thug, Keef Carti

like i said atlanta was already running the rap game by 2013.

Atlanta has been running the rap game since 2005/2006/2007 (TI, Gucci, Lil Jon, Yung Joc, Jeezy, Waka Flocka ect)

I grew up with datpiff and love mixtapes and staying up on October 16th to hear the albums dropping on 10/17

I’m talking mainstream. Jimmy and Rebecca were listening to the Carter 3 but rap was nowhere near where it is now and to get to the next level Drake was the gate keeper

Obviously not the case now which is why they feel comfy popping s*** at him

There's literally dozens of kendrick clones in the industry right now (Smino, JID, the entire dreamville roster)

Drake finds fire artists and dumps gasoline on them to make them pop off for a second

But because he's a sociopath who treats rap like Game of Thrones he doesn't actually foster any talent or potential successors so his legacy lowkey kinda sucks

  • Jul 15, 2024

That first 88glam tape was hard too

  • Jul 15, 2024

It was a mutually beneficially relationship.

The idea that Drake was doing features out of good will is hilarious. He knows what’s good for his brand and what’s trending.
