Still havent seen. There are a couple others of his big ones I still haven't gotten around to watching, like Gangs of NY and Hugo, or his concert films.
You should watch Hugo now while we're going through the end of the silent film era hits extra hard if you're into the real dust
King of Comedy is amazing, dude. Cape Fear too.
DeNiro is at his most terrifying in Cape Fear by alot
Ah gotcha.
I've thought before about stopping ratings, but i cant do it haha. My ratings primarily fill my categorization needs, especially in director lists (which are the only kind of list i make on LB). And switching to no ratings or heart/no-heart feels like my OCD's worst enemy haha.
But if i had to change to no ratings, i'd just start doing it and leave any past ratings up. I follow a couple people who had that change of heart but already logged and rated over 1000 films, and slowly but surely went back and changed all their ratings to a heart or no heart. I cant imagine psycho determination
I can understand switching your style up but retroactively changing it is doing too much
I’m gonna get to a formal ranking when I get a chance, but cape fear when Robert De Niro speaks in tongues…for some reason that s*** always spooks and creeps me out. Never misses.

For sure. Like if you only had a few dozen then it'd be no problem haha. But even going back to change like 100+ films is too much for me to think about

There’s just something liberating about it. Like you’re letting your words speak for themselves. I also just hate the feeling of weighting ratings against other ones. I’ve had comments like “can’t believe you gave this a 4 and that a 2”. It’s annoying.

Oh i totally get it, ive thought about it before myself. I'm just an organization freak about everything haha

Are you going to start writing something for every single film? Cause one of the most handy things about lb is looking back on whether or not I've seen something, how long it's been and what exactly I thought of it at the time. When I'm watching something too cataclysmic or ambiguous or whatever to think about giving a rating to then I just don't but that's not too often. Been trying to write more a little blurbs but feel like a pretentious a****** whenever try and write something like you guys
Don’t know how I’d rank but my top 5 so far is
After Hours
Casino
Goodfellas
Raging Bull
Wolf of Wall Street
Movies I thought were good not great
The Departed
Cape Fear
Shutter Island
Movies I thought were mid
Aviator
Movies I need to rewatch
Silence
The Irishman
Taxi Driver
Hugo
Movies I haven’t seen but will
Bringing out the Dead
Gangs of New York
The Last Temptation of Christ
and all the rest I can’t remember

I retroactively removed all half stars from movies but I think I only had about a hundred logged at the time

I've made a few attempts on rym but that will probably devolve into dumb one liners not something that comes to me naturally at all. I can speak for days about s*** but condensing my thoughts into little blurbs has always been tough.

I don’t write something about everything but I think giving a heart to the film is enough sometimes.

Right I forgot about the heart

I also have a big all time favorites list. If something really sticks with me I usually throw it in there so that helps if I don’t write something about something I really love. Adding it to a list distinguishes it from just any old heart like.
