Good content, but this video could have been more concise and organized. S*** is way too long for what comes off as a "rant" video rather than a "video essay."

Hey what's up. I wanted to make a thread talking about how Hollywood is f***ing up the accessibility of the film and television market. Looking at things like how Disney has manipulated and used things like Copywrite and licensing to abuse their power, and how nostalgia gets weaponized against the general population.

I made a video that talks about a lot of the ways that Disney as well as a lot of these other Hollywood studios limited what you get to see. It's long but I keep it entertaining and fun, while also explaining a lot of the bullshit that goes into rights and licensing. To my knowledge nobody else has talked about this on youtube, even in my research I didn't see anything on it. This video is about 1 year of research and about a months worth of filming and editing. Arguable this could be one of the most important video essays on youtube

Great video. Something i've been meaning to talk about a long time is Disney's programming of children

I started my channel with the goal to make video essays that are fun and approachable for everyone, there's no need to be stuffy, formal and academic it's youtube. I get this critique a lot but I'd much rather my videos be fun than formal.

The original draft was longer lmaoooo. I watch hour plus video essays tbh

This right here, OP. Opening your video with some seemingly off the top of your head monologue is not going to make people want to stick around and finish the video. You should be coming in with a clear, attention-grabbing (not f***ing shouting and s*** like a lot of youtubers.) Your video seems all over the place for something with a clear concept and point to get across (which is what I assume you’re trying to make.)

Also, get a mic holder bro. Work on your audio mixing too. You come across a bit loud (when you actually have the mic in front of your mouth) while your video clips are really quiet. There’s a lot of stuff you can do to improve the overall quality of your videos and that alone will make people stick around. Especially when you’re making an hour long video.

Good s*** tho, OP. I hope to see more content from you

Just saw your reply about making something fun and more casual than other videos. I’d love to see that because you’re exactly right about most video essays being overly formal and lecture-y. But there’s still plenty of things you can do to improve “professionalism” and still keep a grounded and casual vibe

I see, I personally like the charm of a handheld mic tbh! I thought the opening was rather clear tbh, but I can understand how my constant metaphors and lighting fast pace can be off putting.

Idk I get a lot of my influence from Caroline Konstar and prefer my videos to be more chaotic, but I do get how can can be off putting in this genre.

Defo will be taking your feedback into consideration

  • Interesting video. I think you should get a lapel mic or a desk mic stand so you don't have to hold the mic the entire time

I’ll have to take a look at Caroline Konstar’s stuff. Never heard of her

But, you’re right about the handheld mic. Maybe it’d look a little more fitting if you were using a classic/handheld style mic. Just an idea.

    Keep up the good work

I was using Indiana Jones as an example of how public domain allows people to take and translate stories and concepts over time. Now that public domain has stopped moving, it's killed the oral tradition of storytelling

What was wrong in the Star Wars section, I'm genuinely curious

So anyone could make a movie about say Thor, Indiana Jones, Zorro, “folk tale” type stuff etc. until Marvel/Disney/etc.? What do u mean public domain stopped moving?

Good video concept btw Disney super ownership of everything and the ecosystem they got with the parks and TV and s*** fascinated me as a kid before they swallowed Marvel and Fox

I would notice that on Disney Channel they only ever advertise Disney stuff, haven’t watched in like 12-15 years so that may be different now

The public domain is a body of works available to the general public for copyright free usage. Meaning any song, character etc was open to use, remixing etc.

Every year things are added to the public domain, but with Disney introducing it's first case in the 50s and it's second in the 90s, and with damn near artistic thing in existence being copyrighted nothing else gets added to the public domain IE stopped moving.

There is this weird catch they added to that means like if Superman 1 was public domain, any lore added in Superman 21 cannot be used

Hell there was a point in time where The Happy Birthday Song was copyrighten.
