it's because they (Hillary and the writers) were pushing to make this more of an adult show, whereas disney wanted a PG kid friendly show
At one point Disney was considering moving it to Hulu like they did with High Fidelity but that wouldn't make sense imo, especially after they were disappointed with the HF numbers and cancelled it
