Now yeah I know "thread about a tweet" whatever tf but I'm actually interested because I don't think I've ever interacted with people on here, irl, or music spaces in general who thought much of this album
It wasn't bad, but I don't remember much about it outside of that one song that was supposed to be the outro with his pops that was released as a loosie. 2007 I think it was called. That was cool. But as a whole the album to me was...it was there I guess.
Was The Forever Story really the best rap album of 2022, or is this just another hyperbolic tweet from a hip-hop Twitter account ran by a white dude? Cause "Masterpiece and there hasn't been a better album since" is....I mean come on b lol
I'll check it out again because I wasn't blown away by it when it first dropped. Granted I haven't really been blown away by JID since DiCaprio 2, but The Never Story I still hold in high regard.
ngl i skimmed a bit of this awhile ago since i had no interest in this guy’s music at all, and i heard a lot of rappity rapping, didn’t really grab me
was sorta confused as to why people hailed it as a masterpiece
this was a really nice album though, i can easily see why someone would like this
JID, while not a personal favourite of mine, has a nice flow, he can get technical with it, is personal at times, picks good production that fits him and isn’t too cookie cutter, and can put a song together. the only thing he’s really missing is a major marketing machine behind him or a major hit.

He def going around saying he white but when he around rappers then all of a sudden he claims he middle eastern

Dreamville and Interscope ain't major marketing machines? Don't know if I can agree with that. Dude did a Madden soundtrack, been featured on a ton of tracks with big names from 2018 to present. Nigga was even a feature on some KPOP girl group called NewJeans
But I can see him not having a major single that really propelled him forward. Think his biggest track is still 151 Rum or Off Deez with J Cole, but both those were from 2018.

i mean yeah he's on a major label but do they push him like that? i feel like they don't really promote him that much, i don't think he's a priority artist for interscope the way like dababy or someone is.
it was good but metro and kendrick had the better rap albums that year
not much replayability either it’s like a two listen type of album

dreamville just did the whole Creed 3 soundtrack too but the only song that really got attention was Cole's interlude rapping over The Watcher
Good album tbh I remember it being praised well last year but idk about RAOTY
fantano giving it a 9 probably made it the safe pick for those people

Damn if Fantano was d***riding it chances are it really might just be getting overhyped

Feel like Interscope dropped DaBaby like a crack fiend mother

https://twitter.com/gothamhiphop/status/1404200805931143170yall really going in i dont think it's a crazy pick if you're not a fan of more abstract/dusty or weird/soundcloud s***

i'd still give it like an 8 but it’s not some generational classic and also i don’t think a lot of rap albums in the last year have been that hot so it’s just naturally near the top for me
yall really going in i dont think it's a crazy pick if you're not a fan of more abstract/dusty or weird/soundcloud s***
Nah I love that abstract dusty weird s*** lol that's a reason why I didn't really care much for it because I heard better that year. Mavi, $ilkmoney, MIKE, Saba, Denzel Curry, and this underground dude Mikul held it down for me all 2022 on that front.

yeah but im not saying YOU specifically don't like that stuff i mean in general
