I am once again left asking...
What is up with hip-hop Twitter's obsession with JID?
Replies filled with "The Forever Story is the best rap album this decade"...Swear I'm feeling like I'm missing something with that album cause every time I try to listen through it I cut that s*** off halfway thru.
I like JID but I’ve never seen a higher disconnect between Twitter/Reddit hype and actual ability
TFS is good album but IMO, much of its praise is rooted in the fact that it uses the same quality signifiers that a lot of “Great” and “Important” rap albums of the last decade and a half
I wish TFS had more of an edge to it but it’s entirely too f***ing safe and nondescript for me. I give it like a 6.5 for me on a good day. I haven’t listened in over a year at this point so I could warm up to it this year but I genuinely don’t think JID has it.

I think pretty much all male rappers following the TDE/Dreamville playbook fall into this category. Good on paper but very low career ceiling.
Yea, It's mainly the fantano listeners who hype it up. They the same ones who say Jid is bigger and/or better then J Cole.
They’re white brother that’s it lol
what does this even mean? I’m tired of this take when it comes to bigging up lyrical rappers.
Y’all act like niggas don’t f*** with rappers that be rapping and I don’t like that.

I know I come off as a JID hater in this thread but there was a point in time I was f***in with bro heavy. The Never Story is great, I really liked DiCaprio 2, and the early Spillage Village tapes. The Forever Story was just pretty underwhelming and it doesn't help that much of the music on this and that JID has been making is like...2K/Madden soundtrack ass rap. The hype just don't match the quality is my thing.
Cactano gave it a 9/10? Oh yeah definitely gotta disregard whatever hip-hop Twitter been saying about this s*** then lmao that explains everything

It’s not about lyrical rappers it’s more so about fast rappers. White kids love people that rap fast. Black people do too but rappers that rap fast always have white fans that think they’re the GOAT lol
I’m strictly speaking about people that think JID dropped the best rap album of the decade. I’m sure he has plenty black fans but only a white listener would believe he dropped the best album of the decade lol

It is weird how many kids act like Fantanos opinion is correct about s***. There’s been a couple albums he rates highly that I see getting hella praise & I know it’s pretty much due to him. JID is like listening to ai kendrick, I can’t care about someone that doesn’t have personality and rappity rap doesn’t equal skill to me

should just tell you many things about internet discourse and how easily people are influenced in their disingenuous opinions

JID definitely has his own personality, them niggas don’t even have the same tonality or cadences just use the same vocal effects and inflections but calling him AI Kendrick is crazy lol

I mean it is a great album. I personally don’t see white peoppe talk about it as much as this site says. It’s a lot of niggas that love JID in real life. This is such a lazy thing to say when you could just say you don’t like the man’s mursick and that style of rap.
I’m not directing this at you but a lot of people on this site like to use the “white fan” argument when it comes to these specific rappers and I’m sick of it.

It kinda feels that way at times, that or some Twitter accounts been paid to post about him or that album due to the kinda stock replies and tweets you see about it.
It's really the same "best album of the decade", "best rapper of his generation" (what even is his generation cause the nigga been releasing music since 2014) or "JID is next up!" s*** be so weird.
On Twitter and Reddit it's nothing but love and like he is the "must know about rapper!" and in the real world...I ain't ever heard or met anybody who says "Throw on some JID" as much as others (including myself) hate the "They don't play that outside" argument. But when it comes to JID the excitement and hype about him online doesn't translate irl
The nigga gets 20M monthly listeners on Spotify so obviously people know about him yet I hardly ever hear him...anywhere. Only song I've heard from him in public was Surround Sound and that was mostly because it was a Tiktok dance/meme thing
