Court, trials, other investments, leaks personal s*** etc like artist aren't ppl.

ok but realistically it doesn't matter to most listeners, they're just here for the music

rocky is just the example because he dropped recently

  • Putting Mr Morale in the same sentence is MUSIC is all you need to know really

    Mark Moschino

i think it's just about intention of the album right? Maybe he felt that song wasn't working on MBDTF's Hyper-Polished maximal pop rap thing, but it was great for TLOP's messy/the chaos of creation look at my sprawling life thing

That’s exactly it. Passed over on Yeezus cause it didn’t fit there either

  • Imagine nba Yb taking a break

Artsy fartsy rappers being on hiatus kills me.

    They don’t love the game!

  • Some do. Kinda understand how they can too. They're still deep in that creative mode and while they still have that energy they start putting work towards the next project.

Apparently Kendrick got to work on music that would eventually become GNX like a week or so after finishing up Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers.

@Orangutan doesn't care when he's making mad bitcoin selling Carti leaks

Yup big bands big money f*** whatchu herrrrd

  • Well actually ideas are formed through other cycles which then normally develop into their own sounds and ideas so really it takes even longer

  • Jan 20

I wish they would do this

  • I think its moreso just saying the album wasnt worth the wait

  • IvanOoze

In terms of Rocky's situation. I hate the" this doesn't sound like it was worth the wait". Like if s*** didn't get leaked we may have gotten a whole different version. Makes me like leak culture less and less never liked it to begin with.

Why can’t mfs just leak some s*** that’s never coming out. Carti community is infamous for this and completely f***ed over the original WLR

  • mr get dough

One of the most annoying things people say

    this depends on the artist

some artists just continuously make songs and choose their tracklist from a pool of what they’ve recorded

others come up with an album idea & only record with that in mind

and others have a few albums planned out & decide “this song i just recorded will be for this album”

it’s really a case by case thing

  • I think what people mean is. If you're already taking a long time to make something make sure it's good.

  • Mark Moschino

i think the distinction that needs to be made is between sketching and drafting

When someone's sitting on a piano finding chords is that working on the new album? I don't believe so personally.

    doot doot

One thing I’ve always found interesting, sort of related to this, is when songs were created for a previous project and end up on a different one

Like NMPILA originally being made for MBDTF and making its way onto TLOP

Wayne & Thug do this as well

Hot Revolver from IANAHB2 (2013) was originally recorded for Rebirth (2009). he also put a song with Bono on C6 (2025) that was originally recorded for C4 (2011) over a decade before lol

Thug recently put a new version of All Your Time on UY Scuti’s deluxe (2025) when he’d recorded the original as a B-Side to So Much Fun (2019). and the more obvious examples for Thug are when he drops songs made years before on newer projects, like Day Before (2018) on Punk (2021) or High (2016) on OTR (2018). Feel It & Me Or Us from EBBTG (2017) were originally from Slime Season era as well (2015).

  • that criticism against mr morale is so stupid bc of how explicit the opening lines are lmaoo

Rocky’s not a good example for my point here, but people overuse this phrase when discussing artists

80% of the time, that money’s fake / loans from the label

just because you’ve heard someone’s music or seen their name on social media doesn’t make them rich

Oh my goodness gracious Hot Revolver going to have to go listen to the OG now

Rich S*** off Punk started with Ye right? Then I’m guessing potentially almost made SMF? Then held till 2021?

no, ye was just listening to the beat during Yandhi sessions bc he was working with Pi’erre

pretty sure that’s the extent of his involvement. maybe there’s a mumble demo somewhere

the Thug & Juice song was made in 2018/2019 originally though yea

  • Jbreezyondeck

Kind of related but more artists should document what’s going on during the creation process tbh. We have access to way too much technology and it would be cool as hell to get updates and follow along aside from leaks and s***. Idk seems like some meat left on the bone to me

I do enjoy seeing the footage and idea formation, was watching Pharrell showing JT the Like I Love You demo yesterday, was so hard Pusha & Malice's verses were already done with JT in mind & P had done all the demo vocals

Tyler's Cherry Bomb doc is heat, always triggers inspiration/energy when i throw it on

Things can take years or happen rapidly

Frank performed demo songs of Blonde in 2013

From 79-87 Prince dropped 9 albums, all quite distinct from each other & 5 considered among the best of all time

Stevie Wonder dropped 5 super classic albums in 6 years as a blind nigga, & he did the majority of the drumming on those albums
He made the song Higher Ground from nothing to whole song in ~3 hrs

C-Ye did an album a year from 2010-2013

Some of the songs on Black Messiah was fully fleshed out (minus lyrics, the melodies/vocals were recorded without lyrics) at least 14 years before they were released

debuts are usually the summation of all their ideas (that they can execute) to that point, C-Ye had plans for Late Reg, Graduation etc before CD dropped, Homecoming is a rework of a track that was on the original demo of College Dropout
Kendrick had plans for GKMC years before it came out
