You guys clearly weren't around for Beyonce's earlier solo career until she dropped Lemonade. She was present and popular but not even close to being the biggest female star for most of the 2000s when Alica Keys, Taylor Swift, and even veteran Mariah Carey were still above her back then.

Her status today has been mainly due to her consistency of relevance while most of her peers she started with fizzled out. Not to mention her relationship with Hov helped her out as well(and vice versa).

I would put her an upper B tier or lower A class tier status, but not anywhere near that of MJ, Prince, Madonna, etc

the beyhive has gone too far

  • Jan 30, 2023

absolutely not. dont get me wrong, she's a legend but she's not touching prince and mj. 99% of artists today aren't touching them.

    lmfao

25 years after her first album was released we're asking if she's in that category. And the people still want another album and visuals from the last one.

    Of course she is.

like she’s probably like two tiers down

all the other artists named in OP have at least 3 consensus all-time genre-defining albums

even her best albums (lemonade, beyonce, 4) aren’t on that tier

i think shes more madonna tier which is still super legendary

    She’s below Madonna too

Now you’re just trying to hate

  • Jan 30, 2023

Yes she is in all aspects

idk if 4 to renaissance is too close to music of my mind to songs of key of life

especially since stevie did that in like 4 years. plus he was 22 for music of my mind

I never took his age into consideration. Damn that’s tough.

In terms of being iconic, she clearly is. She was the frontwoman one of the most successful girl groups of the late 90's/early 2000s, before becoming one of the biggest solo acts of the 2000s. After that, she spent the 2010's making critically acclaimed albums and cementing her legacy. Even if people here don't rate her, she's liked by casual audiences and critics.

If we're talking album quality, well...she never made anything on the same level as Thriller, Purple Rain, or Songs In the Key of Life, but then, 21st Century artists like Drake, Adele, Rihanna, and Taylor haven't either, and those artists will also go down as being iconic, generation defining acts.

    no

  • Jan 30, 2023

She’s nowhere near their level in terms of music but her performances are only topped by MJ

  • Jan 30, 2023

Not even close imo. She’s an icon no doubt and one of the greatest live performers but there’s levels to this.
