Nah this cap. If you’re black and do some s*** within Japanese culture they’ll get on you for appropriating their culture. Most of these cultures are strict when it comes to what goes on.

I have never seen that happen, they cool with anything. It’s the west/twitter ppl that might make it a problem but they generally don’t. You can wear their cultural clothes and go to festivals and no one will have a problem with it.

Who are the gatekeepers in other communities

Their aren’t necessarily “famous gatekeepers” but in terms of like music for example, country labels will block certain artists that doesn’t fit the “look” of a country artist or someone who they think is just using their culture for fame.

Fair point tbh. I try to include twitter people with irl people since twitter users are real people but you got a point. A lot of that does only happen on twitter for the most part.

We do have gate keepers: they're called The Boule. Listen, if you don't abide by the Boule or align yourself with their ideals, they'll leave you in Africa just like they did W.E.B. DuBois.

Your black voices including Farrakhan are Free Masons. They belong to the game.

The problem is, there aren't any 'honest' Black Gatekeepers. One that is about preservation and pushing forward core and traditional black values. Whatever those values and traditions are, it isn't being vocalized nor a point of emphasis.

What's sad is that there is a Boule in every major black metropolitan area. Your HS councilors, educators, news anchors, entrepreneurs are all gate keepers. You'll be surprised when you move up the ranks in an unorthodox way how many of these people are keeping tabs on you. They'll keep you out of deals, out of sorts if you don't 'check in' and follow 'their' program.

There are gatekeepers. Learn about your local Boule and Black Freemason Hall. It's an 'elite' form of gangbangin. If you don't check in with them when u make a move, u know the rest.

niggas are too welcoming of other people into our culture, while they wouldn’t do the same. we basically move the needle. most people try to talk, dress, and imitate black people. if you disagree, cry.

Yeah yo I’m sick of everybody and their momma being invited to the cookout for just doing basic s***

Nah this cap. If you’re black and do some s*** within Japanese culture they’ll get on you for appropriating their culture. Most of these cultures are strict when it comes to what goes on.

    Not necessarily
Most Japanese people are fine with allat, it’s just the old fashioned xenophobic people that just generally hate non Japanese people in general that have a problem

Most cultures like it when other people participate and embrace it. "Cultural appropriation" is only an issue in the west, you won't see Japanese people crying because Scarlet Johannson wore a kimono to the Met Gala or some s***. Go to Japan and just count how many foreigners are wearing traditional japanese clothes taking photos in temples and s***, they really don't care.

There's only an issue if someone is disrespecting the culture.

Take the whole Logan Paul in Japan fiasco for instance. That’s a perfect example of how to not treat other cultures cause people were rightfully upset about it.

Definitely, but this is just how things are now. Everything is accessible to everyone, so every culture can now be experienced by everyone around the world. That has pros and cons

What is an example of other communities gatekeeping? Other than through language

(which you can argue that black people can do all over the world, just not African-Americans)

To be fair people only cared about this cuz of the dead body in the forest thing, had he just filmed the vlog without that, I doubt their would be that much backlash.

Depends on when and where really.

For example there is no doubt that Korean and Japanese streetwear bite from African American culture, but the same can be said with Korean fashion being the wave now (or when the japanese style bomber jackets were the wave in Atlanta a few years ago), yet you don't really see a lot of comments about culture vulturing or appropriation.

Maybe not worldwide backlash but in Japan it would have still made an impact.
