not really, we reward mediocrity. I think that we are partly to blame for the complete lack of talent in the new gen. we just let anyone pop off and have zero standards.
if anything we are too harsh on other genres like pop. the amount of s*** talking when it comes to pop music is bizarre, just enjoy the music man no need to feel like u are too good to listen to it

I disagree with the 'consensus opinion' take

I feel like with it being such a diverse genre, especially at this current moment in time, that can't really exist?

outside of annoying backpack fans who thankfully don't exist in large numbers anymore

I would say some popular consensus opinions that’ll make people think you have bad taste if you disagree are things like Kendrick being the goat, Kanye being a genius, Big Sean being mid, Drake being bad, etc.

Basically, similar to as you said, stuff the “real hip hop” heads and Twitter crowd will kill you over

Twitter/KTT should be the easiest platforms to gauge what the public thinks and get a wide range of opinions on music,

but imo they (moreso Twitter) just end up being an echo chamber of ppl saying what they think everybody else will agree with, which is why these 'opinions' seem so popular
