it pisses me off because if Nas or Jay dropped an album at that level after, say "Nastradamus" or "Magna Carta Holy Grail", they'd get ripped for it. Em drops it, and from a lower pedestal than either of the aforementioned albums, and suddenly it's a return to form lmao. Enough with giving this guy a huge pass.

Exactly and it’s not even Ems fault it’s his fans that’s constantly trying to make him the Elvis of hip hop. No black artist gets to have a hiatus after some mid, come back and drop below average to trash music for a decade, continue to sell tons and gets forced into GOAT convos when they shouldn’t even be there anymore. At this point his fans just gotta admit some of them only supporting because he’s white.

That's a standout on the album but the album as a whole is really bad.

If 2pac and Big never died, and later dropped mid-bad albums, would they no longer be GOATs? Even though Em's albums fell off a cliff, he did enough and was so important for so long that his status has been cemented.

Is Wayne not a goat when he has some pretty s*** tier albums too?

I'll respectfully disagree on the Jay projects but he also has that Linkin Park mash up.

If they dropped a disproportionately large amount of mediocrity after their primes, then no, they would not be GOATs.

exactly. em even said as much on "walk on water". dude just likes making music now regardless of quality and is okay with not being in the GOAT convo anymore, if he ever was. man pays homage all the time to the people who inspired him. i have 0 beef with em. dude is a locked in legend and his best moments are some of hip hop's best moments. but ice cube, redman, ll cool j, public enemy, wu-tang clan, all had those same moments too, and they all have weak back catalogs that put them out of most people's GOAT convos. it's not even slander, GOAT is a goddamn hard category to get into. some people just aren't built for it. i don't see the problem.

no it has quite a few solid songs. "run this town", "forever young", "onto the next one", are all pretty tight.

Well yeah because those albums are actually trash. BP3 had a lot of dope songs to me that 3rd verse on Thank You one of my favorite verses ever. We have songs like Star Is Born which is genius especially after seeing what Drake and Cole became.

Timeless classic. But who asked for a terribly half-hearted rehash of that song? Literally the laziest of sampling on that thing and Hov wasn't able to do anything interesting with it. It's on a similar level as those awful samples on Revival, just ruining classic songs. A real low for Hov imo.

Midlife crisis. Luckily for him Ye and Nas showed him how to age gracefully a few years later.
