Since I was a kid I’ve been obsessed by music.
I used to play CDs on a stereo and go back over and over to replay my favorite parts of songs. I remember when I was like 9 I was so desperate to have access to the music I wanted to listen to and couldn’t afford to buy songs for $0.99 on iTunes so I would play YouTube videos of songs I liked on the tv and record them so I had them. The more I think about growing up I realize how important music has been to me the whole time I’ve been growing up.
Sometimes I feel like it’s fading. I feel like I don’t listen to enough new music but there’s definitely still something there that draws me to music more than anything else
I guess at the end of the day we’re all here talking about music online so probably right?
But I wanna hear it from people
It blew my mind when I started to realize that other people in my life didn’t care about music the way I did. When I was a kid I just assumed everyone felt that way about it

I used to throw tantrums if I couldn’t listen to graduation on my way to school when I was lil
cant go a single day w/o listening to music so yea

Lmaoooooo
That’s a funny ass image

Facts sometimes when I start feeling weird I realize that i just haven’t listened to enough music that day/week
I'd unalive myself if it weren't for music
same
But at the same time maybe if I didn’t have music I’d feel this strongly about something else
I’ve definitely fallen into a playlist loop recently. Lots of old stuff to go over too these days.
Might start exploring again

I feel
Like maybe I’m listening to less new music but I’m still finding a lot of music that is new to me
Exploring more genres helped a bunch for me too
Yeah music has been huge for me since middle school
What year/s was middle school for you
Yeah.
My parents were big into music so naturally i fell suit.
They were rap heads of the 80s to 2005ish & i come from a musical/arts oriented area, the bayarea. They also listened to RnB, Jazz, Pop & Soul.
Grew up listening to 2Pac, Prince, RKelly, Ray Charles, DMX, Patrice Rushen, Sade, Ice Cube, E40, Michael Jackson, Keith Sweat, 112 etc. And they have a huge Cassette plus CD collection still to this day.
Then a lil in middle but majorly in HS i explored others genres like Indie Rock n the Electronic UK scene of James Blake, Mounte Kimbie, FKA Twigs etc. & deeper into genres i was already familar with like Rap n RnB.
Its always been apart.
I remember on my way to 3rd grade, if I ain’t bump that Astroworld every morning I would be sleep in class all day
Yeah.

That’s dope as f***
I really wish my parents had been more into music. They definitely like music but they aren’t into it like that
You grew up listening to some incredible artists Fr
That UK scene so sick too - that mount Kimbie James Blake burial kinda era too special

Lmao
Sun is down
Yeah
Like I've felt it since I was a kid and also when I really got into some other s*** and my IRLs weren't on the same s*** I was
This is gonna sound like some hipster s***, but I feel like ppl my age are now going through their music discovery phase when I went through that s*** when we were waaaay younger. So I'm also going through that thing with new music that you described where I'm not really seeking it crazy, but the experience of listening to new music is still unmatched
I also do this thing where I'm like very particular about when and where I listen to music. Almost treat it like a soundtrack where I've associated songs with specific times/settings/places/etc... but like super hyper-specific
I mean I can go on about this but I def could not go a day without music. It's really my favorite form of media/art/whatever you wanna call it

Exploring deeper in genres i already knew, & stepping into new genres is one of the best things i ever did. Im HS class of 2014 too so it was just a perfect storm of the semi early modern internet music scene & stuff becoming easy to get n hear without the hardcore copyright laws we have now.
But yeah, i dont have many music players in my family outside a few such as myself, but i have tons of music listener lovers even like my grand parents n such.
Mainly im very glad I grew up with Rap out the womb in a notorious n famous Rap area as well that is also hometown driven.
Yeah

I deeply relate to those middle two paragraphs
Was originally gonna make a thread about how music is like a canvas and the best pieces of music aren’t meant to take you somewhere or make you feel something on first listen, they’re meant to be perfect canvasses for you to paint your memories and associations onto them

100%
It’s honestly a little overwhelming at times w how much music is out there but it’s so f***ing rewarding to find whole new genres or subgenres that you like and know you have so much ahead of you that you’re gonna enjoy listening to
