2020 was actually a very good year for me
It was full of emotions and new experiences and I think I became a much better person this year
at the end of 2020 I realized I started to take more action
I started running with my dad
I've started applying for internships
Focused on myself after a breakup
and I'd like to continue that into 2021
Do things I've always wanted to do but never had enough motivation and discipline to put my words into life
From the things I can measure in 2021 I'd like to:
What are your goals fam?
Take more days off and run a marathon whenever that's possible

That's dope. Are you already running half marathons or whatever or are you starting from complete 0?
Not really. But 2020 has been my best year since 2016 so I’m really grateful for that. No complaints besides the obvious (covid)

No not really, I do run on a weekly basis but that diffs from 5km to 16km and I'm pretty fit besides running so if I'm able to train towards a moment I should be fine. But I want to run it and raise money for cancer research because my mom had that this year.
There's an ex olympic swimmer in The Netherlands (Maarten Van Der Weijden) who did an 11 city tour swimming (200km) to raise money. He won an olympic medal after beating cancer, and when he stopped he did and does a lot of fundraising for research. I wanted to join him with swimming but I figured I'm way better at running, so that's what my plan is. Whenever Covid allows this to happen though, but it's happening eventually.

That's so weird that a year that was supposed to be so terrible turned out to actually be very good
And it's not just you and me
I see a lot of people saying this year was actually great
Maybe it's bc everything slowed down bc of COVID. People started to appreciate little things like just going for a walk with a friend or being able to play ball after months of being locked down
Also some people probably had mental issues they were afraid to face and the moment the lockdown begin they had to fight their demons. And those who sorted their s*** out probably went on to have some good time later that year...
2020 was actually a good start to a new decade

That amazing man!
Fingers crossed you kick 2021's ass and finish the marathon and more

And how do you plan to achieve that?

I feel this, been stagnant for a long time and 2020 was finally the year I woke up. Still have many changes to make, but I'm glad I at least started taking those steps this year
And how do you plan to achieve that?
By believing, once you’re in that mindset everyday becomes a day you could finally achieve your dreams and that’s a way better mindset to have then just waiting for your time to come. Even though realistically it might take 10 years you’re not going to let that discourage you. Envision who you are going to be/want to be in 10 years time and start becoming that guy right now.
Get over my addictions (weed, p***, cigarettes)
Get out more and do s*** I enjoy, even if its by myself
Pick up piano again
Procrastinate less, deal better with stress in general
Live life for myself instead of for others

Maybe some of us needed to hit the rock bottom to bounce back stronger
I always had a lot of friends and liked to go to a party once a month but I was never this extra hype guy who just wants to go out of the house and hang out with people
Lockdown at first was a blessing bc I could sit in my house for a month without feeling like I'm missing out on something
But then it got boring and I completely changed my attitude
I spent the whole summer hanging out in the city. Now I want to go out with my friends, go running with my dad, play ball. It's good.
start of 2020 was a reset fr

Thanks fam, I have good faith this will go fine. Can't get any worse than this year so that's positive. Great thread btw, good to see some positivity.
What kind of software internshop are you looking for? And how many experience do you have with programming?

Bro, we had very similar 2020s I'm fine being by myself but I actually missed my friends and love socializing now too. I just need to get over my shyness around new people

I'm a 3rd year CS student and programming and building stuff is my passions so through classes, online courses or hackathons I've learned a bit. I can finally say I'm at a place where I can build my own things and whatever comes to my mind with enough work I can do it.
TBH I don't know exactly what I'm looking for I just want to get a good feeling of how it is working as a Software engineer in a company. I've applied to Amazon but it didn't go well.
Now Samsung and Goldman Sachs. We will see how it goes

That's something I'm working on myself tbh
With lack of parties now bc of Covid I realized Tinder can't be my only option and in 2021 I'd really like to be this guy that can just walk up to a girl in a social setting and have a quick chat with
I would at that to my list but it's hard to say If I accomplished this or nah
Thanks

What languages are you writing in at the moment? Why do you apply at big organisations? You're really ambitious to work at a big tech company or do have another reason for that?
100% focus in all my endeavors
Maintain health and prosperity in myself and my family
To be without fear in the face of my enemies
To be brave and upright, so that God may love me
And to buy my momma a house
Ameen
Thanks

You go to an ivy league school?

I'd say my area is building full-stack with .NET Core and Angular
I've started by applying to these big organizations bc It has always been a dream of mine to work at Google or whatever. It has drastically changed now bc I know I probably would feel better in a more startup-ish setting but I still think It'd be a good thing to be able to say "yeah I worked for Samsung as a software Engineer one summer"
I believe the way they do things there could teach me a lot about how the industry works
but tbh there's probably not much more to that than it looking nice at my resume and getting a good $ while still learning
If I fail at those Tier A companies I'm gonna move to more local ones
