Or does time, experience, and "paying your dues" not hold any weight in musical discussions?

Should people who have only been fans of the genre for a short amount of time be able to freely slander legends?

Frankly no everyone has different tastes no matter how long

  • Feb 4, 2021

Yes. No one should discredit someone’s opinion because of how long someone has been listening to something. Opinions are opinions.

It doesn't matter, don't be a d***. Instead give them recommendations and help them find more music 💯

I think it does, someone who’s introduction to rap was Eternal Atake shouldn’t be able to start slandering Rakim and Kool G. Of course they have freedom of speech so they can say whatever they’d like but it just dosent sit right with me

We’re all on this site for one reason: to discuss music because we’re a bunch of f***ing nerds

    depends on the person
at one point I thought oracular spectacular was a masterpiece. few years later after listening to more and more music outside of hip hop I realize its just a good album.

i don't respect them less per se, but i'll 100% clown the f*** outta them if they try to speak on things like an authority ie. hip-hop fans on twitter and reddit

some people can be very knowledgeable and put in the time and effort to go through and do the homework in a few years. On average, especially this site, it shows who does and doesn't know what the f*** their talking about.

  • Feb 4, 2021

tbh it's always interesting to get the opinion of a person who is a new listener to a genre or artist because it gives you a different perspective and outlook. also makes you appreciate an artist or genre's growth or lack there of

  • If I see one more trash hip hop opinion from some casual I might have to pick back up the microphone and do it to these meatballs

Having time with the genre doesn’t mean you automatically know what you’re talking about. Especially on this site

@op depends who there listening to

  • Feb 4, 2021

exact reason i never slander most 80s rap cause i haven't heard enough to make judgement plus its really unfair to compare to todays music since its origins of the genre

its like me saying new order is s*** cause there production sounds dated

To continue: if you do stumble across someone saying something stupid, you shouldn’t criticize them but rather try to point them in the right direction like one of the posters ITT said. It’s their right to have an opinion but I also think people should be humble and acknowledge they’re not an expert. That’s why I don’t fw the word dust

I also think this applies to older listeners too. I see so many slandering new rap without even getting it a listen. I understand they were raised on classics and nostalgia is deceiving, but they hate on new s*** before even giving it a chance just because they’ve heard a lil pump track. Broad generalizations are just bad all around

Agreed as well. A lot of people say dumb s*** but I do think the average person who is an avid listener of a genre for a very long time will have more sound takes than a newer listener.

That’s big facts. There’s plenty of people on this site and irl who don’t know their place when talking about certain subjects because they think anything 15+ years or older is s***. Now if somebody is open minded and willing to try out the music, I’d definitely be part of the conversation and recommend them some stuff yfm.

I just can’t stand willful ignorance

if you ask me artist that i love (i made it pretty clear who i stan) i happily guide you cause i know i have asked plenty people on directions

i honestly started stanning charli just 18 months ago when i was looking for new music to listen to and i feel love with her very quickly. I got to learn a lot about her and process of making music though asking people and doing my own research about her background and origins of the music to point i feel i know everything there is about her basically heard everything she has made
