if you ask me artist that i love (i made it pretty clear who i stan) i happily guide you cause i know i have asked plenty people on directions

i honestly started stanning charli just 18 months ago when i was looking for new music to listen to and i feel love with her very quickly. I got to learn a lot about her and process of making music though asking people and doing my own research about her background and origins of the music to point i feel i know everything there is about her basically heard everything she has made

I feel the same way with her. I been stanning since the Sucker era and I’m always advocating for people to listen to her music. Gotta spread the gospel

    depends
if you're a grown ass man sure but if you're a kid hell no probably exposing myself but whatever man outside of singles i wasn't even listening to albums at all until i was like 12 or 13 lmao

that being said it's insane how my first important album experiences were not views or TLOP and i'm very grateful for that

  • Feb 4, 2021

i probably would not appreciate as music as i do now if i wasn't listening to the classics before

honestly this goes for anything i get invested

when i was heavily into overwatch for example i watched guides and s*** to get good at the game then when i felt proficient enough i would help my friends get better explaining to them what to do and how to adapt there play to be better

gatekeeping is only going to make people turn off from a thing and they might miss out on, something they might enjoy

and this isn't to diss either of those albums i like views a lot and i love TLOP but it's just something that i think would have made my tracjectory so much different

Na it doesn’t matter. They could of just started listening to hip hop last year. If they did their research and understand the genre it’s history and the impactful events then you can speak on it and people will show respect

if ur opinion shows a clear lack of knowledge it’s less reputable

i kinda agree but at the same time to be in hip-hop and make that kinda of album while being a mainstream artist + succeeding in making something actually decent deserves to be commended

I was around 8 when I started listening to albums. Granted growing up there was always music playing around the house but I never had a chance to actually sit with an album till then.

I’m 21 now, own over 600 albums on vinyl, and I still feel like I haven’t scratched the surface of music. There’s so much out there it’s truly a blessing

not saying being experiment = better either but to me if you make something subversive and still succeed at making at least even passable to good music that's a pretty big deal

To continue: if you do stumble across someone saying something stupid, you shouldn’t criticize them but rather try to point them in the right direction like one of the posters ITT said. It’s their right to have an opinion but I also think people should be humble and acknowledge they’re not an expert. That’s why I don’t fw the word dust

I also think this applies to older listeners too. I see so many slandering new rap without even getting it a listen. I understand they were raised on classics and nostalgia is deceiving, but they hate on new s*** before even giving it a chance just because they’ve heard a lil pump track. Broad generalizations are just bad all around

good points and level opinion for both sides. agreed

I think it does, someone who’s introduction to rap was Eternal Atake shouldn’t be able to start slandering Rakim and Kool G. Of course they have freedom of speech so they can say whatever they’d like but it just dosent sit right with me

Yea this is a example of the negatives. But I’ve seen niggas start getting into hip hop heavy in like 2018 and knowing they s*** cause they also research the greats and history aswell while having a refreshing perspective. Very rare

Your homies are real ones. I’ve posted this in another thread, but I have a friend who didn’t know who Biggie was until I told him about him last year. He raps sometimes which makes it even weirder. In 2018 he told me he didn’t know who Pac was either. I was like wtf, have you been living under a rock? I can understand not knowing let’s say, Styles P or Devin the Dude, but Pac and Biggie? Insane
