I try if there's any hope for discussion but some people are just too much

People think getting along with someone they disagree with makes them smart and emotionally collected, but it's far from the truth. It's actually juvenile to not stand for something. To allow those who believe things you wholeheartedly are against to be cool with you is a sign of your own weak virtues.

Agreed. Used to think engaging and being friends with people I disagreed with heavily made me more nuanced and cultured and s*** but it was honestly draining and demeaning having to deal with them. So glad I got over that phase.

My best friend is very pro-capitalism lol

We can disagree on a bunch of topics that are important to me, but there are limits

    Most people are?

  • Nov 25, 2021

Depends on what the disagreement is

You right I just mean that most people are tacitly pro capitalism by default, like you have to actively go out of your way to be anti capitalism in the English speaking West

This is just narcissism. Ask yourself if you've ever had a stupid belief that you later learned to be incorrect. Then ask if you think your friends should've abandoned you for it.

It's hard to get close with people you disagree with on fundamental things in life

Depends on what the disagreement on.

If it's s*** like homophobia or racism...then you are a weirdo saying it's difference of opinion

I can be nice and respectful, but I wouldn't want to go out of my way to talk to them

    pretty much

i don't mind some trumpers in my fam for example but if they start acting super ed, f*** that

i probably wouldn't be friends because we simply have different alignments on fundamental things but these are people ive known for years, and im related

tbh i just get sad when i think of this because these dudes are good ppl, and one of them is a really smart guy, but i just don't get their alignment with such reactionary fervor

i havent heard them say super-bigoted s***, but they're like crowder fanboy gamers, so im not surprised, probably the same culture war bullshit that lead everyone else to it since 2014-2016

it's important people should try to understand this, and to mitigate the material conditions which lead to it

ive never rly talked to them about politics directly and the only time ive seen this brought up with them was tonight when the rest of my fam was kinda drunk, and a liberal relative got into a drunken argument about biden and trump

    Nah.

I used to think the opposite as a teenager. I'm near 30 now. I have understanding that supercedes that psuedo-open mindedness I had then.

You’re not willing to give people the time to reason their way out of incorrect beliefs? This mentality is toxic imo

  • Nov 26, 2021

    Sure Why not

If you're someone I've been close to for years and discover you have some belief that I am not down with, then it all depends on the relationship we have. Can I call you out? Then yea, it might be worth it. But a lot of people I meet now won't be. I don't have the energy.
