Racial minorities have faced barriers and unequal treatment in various domains, such as education, employment, and housing, due to deeply ingrained biases and prejudices.
Affirmative action refers to policies or practices that aim to address historical inequalities or underrepresentation of certain groups by providing preferential treatment or opportunities. It is seen as a means to level the playing field by actively considering race as a factor in admissions, hiring, or promotions. It is intended to provide opportunities to racial groups that have historically been underrepresented or marginalized.
Do you think affirmative action necessary to address historical racial inequalities?
Edit: Serious replies only. I'm deleting all the first page troll posts till I go to bed
Affirmative action doesn’t help as much as you folks think. You can literally look at the number of black students in these top universities. But historically AA benefits white women the most.
2nd hand white privilege basically.
And to answer the op you’re asking if it’s necessary when my job just got sued 3 times in 10yrs for racial discrimination. Of course it’s necessary but the act in of itself does not benefit people of color much, otherwise all these corporations wouldn’t be getting sued for racism

This has been disproven
We have something like this to make up for Apartheid called BEE (Black Economic Empowerment) and it's not going well. People who don't have the skills and knowledge to do certain jobs are getting the jobs. And now we're facing issues like 4+ hours of power cuts everyday since October last year
If you have two equally qualified candidates, one from a privileged group and one from a less privileged group, I understand. But under qualified people are being given jobs and promotions instead of more qualified or deserving people
The most qualified should be selected in every instance, regardless of race

we need independence and influence of our own imo. having american wealth, american clothes, american dreams doesnt mean anything for us. we need identify and influence from within, from our own creation. thats why i as a black man want to be a mathematician, an engineer, so i can contribute to the knowledge and capacity of humanity while also representing my culture and supporting my people
It's a bandage solution to a systematic wound
exactly, will work for like 3-5 years max, then things will probably be even worse
we need the change to be how we are percieved and how we perceive ourselves. we need a revolution in identity
Let people slave away for hundreds of years and then don't give them back the wealth they produced. Put some of them in universities and tanks and call it a day. America.
Need to run them reparations full stop
Work was done for free and the debt needs to be paid
