It is necessary, because grades in school are not an accurate representation of how good you can be at something.

And since many minorities grow up in settings that don't promote school as the primary life goal, it puts them at a disadvantage automatically because they may have not gotten good grades.

But that's in the context of school. I am also someone who has benefitted and will continue to benefit from affirmative action.

It puts me at the forefront of opportunities and I get the chance to exceed expectations so idk how anyone could be against it

I remember in college I got accepted thru affirmative action and they made everyone like that attend a 1 week program in the summer before classes, I was like 1 of 3 ethnically white people there out of like over 100 lol.

I remember the dude I roomed with was this brotha from Detroit and he told me the first day like "Man I'm not even gonna go to class, I just came here to party." I was like , (little did I know I'd unknowingly be doing the same thing, but anyways)

That same program I met people that went to Detroit Public Schools and went on to have successful careers in STEM.

Obviously you got outliers like myself who take a dump on opportunities, but I think its still worth it for those who made something of it regardless.
