What's wrong with rap is a microcosm of a bigger picture of what's happening in society. People are just tired of soulless art and entertainment in general. And the industry heads keep pushing this garbage. It's no different in the film industry also.

what matters is if song exposes something true and real about ourselves and our world

wav files is a deep song. I miss my og by 454 is a deep song. and at the same time, glory boy by lucki is also a deep song. its all contextual.

Y’all bringing up Youngboy & Sauce Walka just tells me you don’t get the whole picture of what niggas are talking about. 50 was a street rapper to his core and his music had soul to it. Mobb Deep music had soul to it. Dipset had soul to it. That same soul is what Kendrick has. It’s more than what you’re talking about, it’s HOW you talk about it.

Those niggas mentioned do not have soul to their music man.

what do you mean by "as long as there is perspective"?

I think people are categorizing conscious music to a specific sound (which it may be, idk I’m not an expert on genres lmfao) when there’s plenty of mind opening and thought provoking trap songs that on paper you would think is a conscious song

all rap that isn't made with the intention of party music is conscious because it has something to talk about (perspective). u could even argue that the party music is conscious but im not gonna make that argument. either way, i only bring that up because i think the main problem isn't rap being "deep" or not (because most rap to me is inherently conscious). i think the problem is that its mostly low effort so far this decade. i think even the stereotypical idea people have of conscious music is very low effort as of late.
