    I agree.

Fans can listen to a million songs about killing, d*** abuse, and Patek watches…

    “this s*** slaps”

But will mock rappers like Jay Electronica or Kendrick when they talk about different s***.

    Hip Hop needs balance.

Both can coexist personally I grew up on trap but today I make more cinematic music, but I don’t mind that niggas still do what they’re good at and when I listen it’s still hard or captivating with what they’re talking about

why are niggas like YoungBoy and Future even being brought up in here in the first place?

their artistry isn’t dismissed more often than basically anybody else’s that doesn’t align with the mainstream sound of the genre at all lol, no clue why they’re even being talked about in here

the problem in this conversation is that they aren't coexisting right now.

Kool G Rap made some of the most murder murder music ever made my dad loved that man music (for east coasters that feel they're contextually superior to the rest of us)

The problem is in the 90s you could turn on the radio and listen to 2 Live Crew, X-Clan, Poor Righteous Teachers, in the same hour and it be ok because yes. We are multi-faceted creatures and should be allowed to enjoy as such.

There is NO such thing as balance in 2024.

The Notti Bop was a f***ing hit bro. We have hit a dystopian era in black music when we calling a dark skin black girl "harriet tubman music" but gladly dancing to a song where a black kid got stabbed to death in actions that would make the KKK be like " these niggas doing our job for us! "

Lmao there’s two conversations happening at the same time.

The youngboy conversation just stemmed from troy ave stan gimmick and dude who was mad about troy ave stan doing that and people vouching it

What are you even saying? Sounds like you’re proving my point cause you’re the one that said boom bap sounds the same

Genres have standards and of course outliers

The majority of boom bap will sound the same; as will that gutter soul sound

That’s the point of genre music. There’s nothing wrong with it

We’re saying the same thing except you’ve concluded that this is a bad thing. Jazz is my favourite genre and I’d be sick if the majority of hard bop didn’t sound similar

Yeah but dorks be thinking it gotta be Lupe/Kendrick when it can be a street rapper like Youngboy/Sauce Walka

But that’s a conversation suburbans can’t talk on

Cuz street rap as a whole isn’t that deep musically for every Youngboy that makes a heartfelt song there’s like 20 other street rappers rapping about the same old subject matter

Hey like I said when the thread opened, I don’t agree with what that girl said about Doechii. I agree with Doechii and even tailor my music in that creative vain because the game desperately needs it

I just didn’t like buddy s***ting on youngboy cause he do have some soul in his music, that’s all. Saying it doesn’t cause it sounds the same makes no sense to me

first reply in that tweet already getting me annoyed: hip hop originally started as party music

NO S*** SHERLOCK NOW MENTION HOW THE FIRST BIG HIP HOP SINGLE WAS A "conscious" SONG THAT WAS WRITTEN IN RESPONSE TO A NYC TRANSIT STRIKE I SWEAR I HATE NIGGAS BRO.

there's this weird justification being made that 1. fun music can't be conscious or deep. 2. that party rap music of 70s, 80s and even 90s (even go as far as 00s and early 10s) are equivalent to some of soulless "party" music of today

  • This is the case for most hiphop fans in the last decade. Y'all have ruined a once proud genre. Ain't no going back now--each generation cares less and less and just wants more and more party records. Its over

Again, it’s how you present the mursick. If I don’t like the sound, that should be fine. To me there’s no soul here and that’s how I feel.

To me they sound similar and it’s not a good sound so both are true to me personally.
