my mom and stepdad are this way, they're unhealthy and out of shape, they have never tried to make a proper meal and only recently started. I have been making my own food for years because of it. It is a serious issue tbh, they're so dependent on takeout and prepared food they can't even properly put together something healthy. The fact that my mom has NEVER been focused on healthy eating and nutrition my whole life very much played into how overweight I was when I was a kid and my subsequent eating issues. Not knowing how to cook, especially when you have a kid is an issue, shoveling trash into your kids mouth is not good.

Mom cooked great when I was at home (albeit mostly just veggie/low fat stuff), dad not at all.

My dad can cook when he wants to, but the older he gotten the more lazy he got when he's cooking. To the point he cooking fish in the microwave
